A Piece of Someone's Heart
If you've been unfortunate enough to lose someone close to you, this thread is for you.
Has a special person in your life ever left you something of infinite value, something you treasure with all your heart?
I'll go first: when my mom passed away in 2003, I got her engagement ring. My sister wanted me to immediately have it reset into a pendant, but I just wasn't ready to 'dismantle' something so important that belonged to my mom. (My parents were married for over 50 years.)
Just recently, I had the diamond reset into an 18" necklace. I was finally ready to do it. And I truly wear it with pride!
Each time I put it around my neck, I feel my mom is close to my heart.:-4

Bullet's trial was a farce. Can I get an AMEN?????

You'd better guard that with all your might.
And all your love :-4

When my Uncle knew he was dying, he gave me his Ovation guitar. It was the 3rd guitar he'd given me, and it was him that taught me to play. It's very old and worth around £2000 but its value to me is not in the monetary sense. I'll just pass it on when my time comes.

I lost my Aunt "Liddie" (Lydia) many years ago... she was the most
amazing woman... I have some things she gave me, I still have the
graduation card she sent me (you'll love this Cher, she signed it with
her name, my Uncle Tony's, and Pierre, their dog!!).
Mostly what I have are very very wonderful memories. There are
women here around the Garden who I know would have loved her,
too. She was all out and in your face and take no guff from anybody.
She was a "Rosie the Riveter" and drove a SEMI-TRUCK during the
war years, back when virtually no women drove the big rigs.
Natural redhead.
It's pretty amazing that someone could be gone so long and yet you
still think about them so often. She was a GREAT cook, a seamstress
par excellence... so many many things.
Thank you for giving me yet another opportunity to think of her, and tell
about her...

Hubby's mom passed away on Christmas Day 2002.
She loved African violets and we took one of her plants
This year, the very first bloom of the plant came on . . .
Mother's Day.
How great is that? :-6

I have a diamond ring and earrings from my one grandmother who died about 10 years ago. I wear it sometimes to church on Sunday, and on St. Patrick's Day to remember her, my Irish granny.

I'm happy you shared the memories
When I was a teenager, I thought that if/when my parents passed away (I had to say 'if' because it was too difficult to imagine 'when'), I told myself, "I hope I can get past the sorrow and sadness and get to the point where I am *truly grateful* to have had them in my life.
And, you know, after a time, that's exactly where my head got to. I feel so blessed to have had my most special mom in my life, to have experienced so many wonderful times with her.
I feel very lucky indeed. :-4

I have my grans charm bracelete. Mine almost matches hers as everytime she travelled she picked up charms for her and I and my mom. Lovely memories of Gran, and Gramps sigh... ohhh I miss them now... makes me want to head to the coast...just to be near what was once theirs.

Oh, charm bracelets! I still have mine, my grandmother bought many of those charms on it, for my birthday, and special occassions.

Minxie
Isn't it interesting how we like to be able to *feel* their presence around us?
I think it feeds the heart and soul.

My mother passed away a few years ago and since I am the oldest, all my siblings agreed that I should have her Mothers ring. I do wear it when I don't wear my Mothers ring. (goes on the same finger). There are many moments I think about her and miss her.

When my grandma found out she was sick again with cancer, she crocheted all of her grandkids a baby blanket for their first child. I have mine put up in my hope chest. After she passed away, I recieved her bible. Grandma never had alot of money and what she did have she spent on her grandkids. she led a rough life, but you never heard her complain. She could make anything grow, wonderful cook, and the best seamstress.
When my daughter was born, my aunt said that my grandma had to be glowing happy in heaven because she finally got her red headed, blue eyed kid.
