Community Bookmarks?

Post by Hawke »

Hey, fellow seedlings!

I've recently come across and have been playing with an online bookmark management site - essentially, a site whereby you can store your bookmarks to be accessible from any computer, in addition to allowing those bookmarks to be seen by anybody else who knows your account name.

I think this would be a good way for us FG members to share a lot of our interests with each other - for example, someone good with photoshop might have links to several tutorial sites. For me, I have links to lots of webcomics :)

The service is free via the GPL (General Public License), so feel free to try it out if you want. You can see my bookmark page here, and you can check out the service here

If this becomes popular among us members, it might be an interesting feature to consider rolling into FG (subtle wink to the administrators).

Hi Hawke,

Good post. I'm familiar with delicious - been reading about it for a while via some bloggers. At this time, it doesn't look like you we do much as a third party other than pull their rss feeds and play with their minimal api.

We do have a link directory program that is in our back pocket that provides :

* Unlimited categories & sub-categories.

* Unlimited links.

* What's New & What's Popular sections.

* Allow users to comment on links.

* Allow users to rate links.

* User Favorites.

* User Subscriptions.

* Add your own custom fields.

* Advanced searching features.

* Sticky links.

* Shows the number of replies and links per category.

* Shows the number of hits, posts, last person to reply to links, and etc for each link.

* Advanced sorting options in each category.

* Allow users to send links to their friends.

* Allow users to report broken/problematic links.

* Private directories.

* Set permissions based on usergroups.

* Completely template based so it is very easy to change the look and feel.

* Moderate links before they will appear per usergroup.

* Ability to choose moderators to moderate each category.

* Easily find and remove or suspend broken links.

* Easily find and remove/suspend duplicate links.

* Allow users to send links to their friends.

* Allow users to report broken/problematic links.

We weren't sure of the interest so we haven't implemented it. Comments?

I'd use it!

What say the other community members? Have any interest in a bookmarks manager?
