Oh this is not good news, we have a former co-worker and friend who had to move back to Israel earlier this year, we are going into day 3 of not reaching her....

I just hope some good vibes from you all will see our Tanya through this dam war safely..

Thanks Minks.

It's probably just things whacky with the communication systems and stuff.

I sure hope so, anyway.

We heard from Tanya, so far so safe. :) I hope her and her family remain safe and I hope this war isn't going to become "the big one"

Ok I appear to be talking to myself but now I am angry, with further discussion with Tanya, I now know her real angst, her oldest son just turned 18 and she is dreading him being recruited. The real kick in the pants here, her and her family were deported from Canada just 2 months ago because they ran out of "trial" time and her husband could not get a proper full time job during that period and they were sent back.

I am so darn angry and sad :-1

That is terrible. It is sad what war does to a country..and to the people of that country.

He mgiht not have to be active military, he can maybe select another option for his service years.

that's sad Minks.

Chronsi I think in Israel all folks when turning 18 are required to join the military. I can't remeber how long they have to serve though.

They have to give service to the country, it doesn't have to be in the military. For example, they can teach at specific schools, work for community groups fulltime, etc. I've known many who have chosen something else besides the military.

This article talks about the numbers, it is 50% or so go into the military, the other half do some other service. It is about a survey to study the impact of mandatory service on youth service.
