Another thing - some people intent on robbing your house know how lazy we all are and that most people just leave their keys on the table as they walk in . Over here we have had a few reports of burglars using a fishing line to put through the letter box in order to swipe your keys - SO DONT LEAVE YOUR KEYS (HOUSE /CAR ) IN SIGHT OF YOUR LETTER BOX . Or do as i do have a heavy curtain behind the door that you can pull across the door at night it also keeps out the draft in the winter or like i do install CCTV and leave your porch light on so the potential intruder can see hes being filmed .

Marlin 55G, it's an old one but still it works just fine!

There's a story that goes with it, I bought it back in 67, when there was riots going on in the towns & streets in the NY area. We lived in a "wooded area" about 26 miles from town, & the police station was even further away. If the riots got to our area, by the time the cops got there who knows? So I went to the local Gun shop in our small L.I. town, and by the time I got there, there already had been a run on guns by the locals. There were only "2" guns left in the entire store! The one I bought for $28, & the one I could not afford at $76. The owner recommended double-aut buckshot, so I bought 6 boxes. "2" of which I still have till today, as the other 4 boxes I used up for practice in the woods, & at my friends gun target range.

If you still want to read more, the story continues. The day I bought the gun home, I took my trusty "hack saw" and made it into a Sawed-off- "scatter" shotgun! To my dismay, I then found out it was illegal to have a Sawed-off" shotgun. (I unknowingly cut it "3" inches below regulation) Since it was illeagal, they would not let me take it into my friends gun range. "No Gunsmiths" would work on the illegal gun to make it back to regulation specs. Luckily for me, my dad had access to a lathe machine, & soldering apperatus, so he made a machined collar for the gun barrel that slipped over the part I cut off & the gun barrel. And soldered the whole thing together. It came out great! I was then allowed to take the gun into the range, & I tested it out. It worked perfectly. (Loud as hel!, deafening, even with the ear muffs on)

(After writing this, it just reminded me I have not cleaned the gun for years. Note to self: get to it!) :rolleyes:

In most places in the UK I think the neighbours would just turn over and curse

the owner of the car with the alarm going off.... not because they don't care, but

because all these car and house alarms going off are a PITA.... so many false

alarms that they're widely ignored.

What's a "nightstand", BTW? Not too rude, I hope!

Yikes! Let's hope it's not some drunk teenager that's mistaken your home for his. My Dad's best friend in the 1980's heard a noise ans surprised someone coming through his window.

Unfortunately, it was his wife (she had forgotten her house keys) and he killed her.

Not to be morbid, but just curious as to why was she "sneaking" in through the window, it was "her" house. She should have rang the bell & came in the front door! It should be noted, that "anyone" that would be sneaking into my house, would not be a member of my family. As we all have keys, & emergency keys, & even house keys & cars keys in magnetic case hidden under the bumber on our car out in the driveway.

Right side, "opposite" the side of the tail pipe, so don't get burned if feeling under the bumber for the key box in the dark!
