I for one would never want such a world. Too vanilla.

Our passions are what make us human. To strip all controversy from society is to strip all personality.

That would suck!

It is a pretty song.

But the lyrics are definitely socialist in tendencies, so I wouldn't want a world like that.

And "no religion" is totalitarian, I don't think so.

But it still doesn't ruin the song for me, we sing many songs and don't mean the words.

I'm thinking of Oscar Mayer weiner commercials right now............................

I read a very interesting article a few months ago, Accountable, about a bunch of people who in the sixties - filled with idealism - had gone to live like that on a kibbutz. Owning nothing, being assigned clothes, a car, whatever was needed at the time. The kids were raised jointly. Everyone mucked in, ate and lived in full community, shared stuff. If they had religion it was not very apparent. A generation later, the original people seemed mainly to be disappointed. Some of them had worked harder than others but felt they had nothing to show for it. Most of the children had chosen to leave and lead 'normal' competitive lives out in the wicked world.

This was not a scholarly thesis. Just some interviews and mainly descriptive, but I found it very interesting.

While you've got humans, you're not going to get a vanilla world.

That is true, Clancy.

Did they ban alot of songs there that were very controversial? I remember in another thread someone mentioned a certain song was banned during Gulf War I, I think-I may be wrong. I do not think we ban songs here, but just raise a controversy over them.

Sorry, but I think we have everything to live for, and nothing is worth dying for......

From the moment we come out of the womb we are all dying.

We are a species, nothing more.....our time is chosen to come and also our time to leave.

What we do with that time is what is important.

If there were no religion, then it would be one less thing to kill or die for.

I prefer Freddie mercury`s words.

Nothing is worth dying for?

I would gladly give my life to save my beloved wife, because she's worth dying for.

For 21 years I placed my life in the hands of the US military machine, because America is worth dying for.

If I saw a person in a dire emergency I would risk my life to save him or her, because humanity is worth dying for.

If I failed to do these things, my life would be meaningless, and not worth living.

People die for principles, but are principles worth dying for.?

Not in my book.

I`d gladly give my life for my children, but my husband wouldn`t want me to end my life for his.

I`d help a stranger, but I wouldn`t die for one, and never would I die for a piece of land.

I met a lady all of 5-feet 4-inches who did just that. She approached an overpass and witnessed a collision between 2 cars. One driver was slumped over the wheel and flames were licking out from under the hood. She jumped from the safety of her car and ran to the stranger. Failing to open the door, she grabbed the much larger unconcious man and dragged him out the car window. Because of the position of the car, his body slipped over the edge of the overpass rail. She hung on, knowing that the car may explode at any second. She risked her life - ready to die for a stranger.

I would hope I would do the same.

You`re welcome ......my kids would be the only thing I would die for, so yes, I stand corrected, I`ll rephrase it then.

In my life apart from my kids, nothing is worth dying for....

no stranger, no country, no religion, no principle, ...... no nothing else.

As a child of the "Age of Acquarius," (I know...I'm old) I remember the communes and free food societies and even believing that people could end warfare and break down hatreds...."love and peace," my dears!

Now...I see illegals brazenly defying our immigration laws and think "Imagine there's no countires," MY A##!
