Obituary Of An Old Friend

Post by Shweet tatersalad »

WE are mourning the loss of a beloved old friend who recently passed away. His name was Common sense.Common sense lived a long life but died in the United states from a vicious contagious disease.

He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes, and factories, helping folks get the job done without fan-fair and foolishness. For decades, petty rules, frivolous lawsuits, and ludicrous verdicts held no power over common sense.

He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, and life isn't always fair.Common sense lived by a simple and sound financial policy: Don't spend more than you earn.Common sense also lived by other time-tested strategies like:The adults are in charge and not the kids, and it's OK too come in second or third.

A veteran of the great depression and the technological revolution,Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends such as body piercing."whole language" and "new math'.But his health declined when he became infected with the "I'm not responsible for my own actions" and "It's alright if it feels good" viruses. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero-tolerance policies.Reports of a six year old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.

It declined further when schools had too parental consent to administer aspirin to a student, but could not inform the parents and get their permission when their children were given mind altering drugs or birth control pills.

Common Sense lost his will too live when criminals received better treatment than their victims, the ten commandments became contraband, and priests molested young boys. When a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee is hot,and was awarded a huge settlement, and when the president sold security related technology to a hostile nation,Common Sense fell into a coma.

As the end neared,Common Sense drifted in and out consciousness, but was kept informed of new questionable regulations, such as thought control and partial birth abortion. Finally, when another president, claiming steadfastly protect the country from terrorist atrocities, yet simultaneously allowing the same villains to invade the country through borders and ports of entry that are,as design, inexplicably easily violated, being fully aware of what the grave consequences of such contempt by the chief executive for the nation's security can be,Common Sense died of sudden cardiac arrest.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents,Truth and Trust, his wife love, and his daughter Responsibility, and his sons Diligence and Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers,Deception,Greed and Ignorance. Not many attended his funeral because so few noticed he was gone.

Must have been your timing Tater. This is the first I've seen your post.

But very poignant. Somehow, I think the answer is going to lie with the common folk to save The Day. We certainly can't trust anyone else to do it for us.

I think alot of the PC stuff could go by the wayside if folks would just use common sense also.

So often folks are afraid to use some terminology for fear they will offend someone.

OK, I do not mean the use of the "N" word, or blatantly racist or sexist words....but I actually was reprimanded by a hearing friend for using the word "deaf" when speaking of a person who could not hear. When did such a word become offensive??

OK

The same reason why people are afraid to help someone in case something they do gets them sued.

I know a guy at a place where I worked who gave up being a first aider so he could actually help his workmates. Every year he went for a refresher, there were more things he wasn't allowed to do.

This was one guy applying common sense for the common good.

I can't depend on a comapny having a first aider, so I take my own basic kit in case I need it.

But dosen't every US state have Good Samaritan laws now...where you cannot be sued for providing first aid. Or do I understand the law wrong?

I do agree with your thoughts though.

Common Sense and respect for others should go hand in hand. Things would be so much better in the world.

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

This makes me kinda sad as it reflects just about everything that's going on in the world today. Very cleverly written. Thanks for sharing. :yh_flower

I don't know about the USA, Marie. The first aider I mentioned works at a place I contracted to last year.
