A Woman or a girl?
Which is proper for addressing you? “A beautiful woman with outstanding attributes. “A pretty girl with a bright future. My daughter in-laws are currently girls. They are in their twenties. There are time when I don’t know which is correct. Your thoughts?
This is under “questions that bother me so and “some things are a mystery to me and other things are much to clear

Honestly I think it depends on each girl's own personality as to which would be the most welcome comment.
"Girls are crazy! I'm not ever getting married, I can make my own sandwiches!"

To me, either would be OK...I could think of worse things to be called. But I think part of it may be the perspective of the person doing the speaking.....someone in our age group or older, may well call someone in thier 20's or younger a girl.

I like woman or young woman/lady. I hate being called girl, and sweetie and honey for that matter, especially by the 15 year old check out girl. I want to tell her I am twice her age, and its disrespectful.

I like young lady. Here girls implies imaturity, young girls, children, non women. Roughly 14 and under is a girl then they go to young ladies, and after that women is acceptable as well.
Personally Young Lady flatters me to no end

Oh, DG, I totally forgot about that. I used to hate when people who did not know me called me "honey" or "sweetie" or stuff like that!!

I dont mind it when its from someone quite a bit older than me, but when I bought wine at the grocery store the other night and the 15 year old cashier says, "I need to see your ID, sweetie", it made me cringe!!! UGH!

Young lady, I think girl would be used for under 12 years of age.
I always refer to my students as young ladies and gentlermen-makes the boys cringe!

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.
