My memory..going, going, gone.
My memory..going, going, gone.
I have a problem that is getting worse as I get older....remembering names.
I've had close to 3000 students now. Some of them are graduated and have their own lives. They come up to me in the grocery store and say , "Hi Mr. Ives!, remember me?"
I remember every face I ever saw and know instantly if someone was my student, but the name is completely gone. I can barely remember the 100 or so students I have right now.
So I usually end up saying something stupid like, "Of course you were my Math student!" ( Odds of that being right are about 90%) What was your last name again?" (This implies that I remember their first name, meanwhile I'm hoping that their last name will help their first name come to me)
If that doesn't work, I am forced to say, "Oh yeah, and your first name was ....I guess here, usually wrong. Then they get that "hurt feeling" look. (sigh)
So now I've taken to teaching my students to make sure they introduce themselves to me if they see me in the future,
"Hi Mr. Ives, I'm Sally Tsosie, do you remember me?"
Anybody else have a problem remember ing things?

Sad but true it is a natural part of aging, a little bit of our memory gets erased daily. I wish it was a good excuse to not pay taxes, visit the in-laws, ummm gosh i forgot what else I was going to say.... ahahahahahaha

My memory..going, going, gone.
I worked on film crews with upwards of 60 people on set. It took me at least two weeks to know who anyone was talking about. Some people seemed to know everyone's names in two days. I guess they sat and memorized the crew list the first night. I think I was just to busy doing my job. Even so, it takes me a few times hearing it before I remember someone's name.
Apparently if you use their name three times shortly within hearing it you will remember. Frankly, I just think a lot of conversations take place with both parties never really knowing who they are talking to. Makes me feel better to think that anyway.

My job requires me to know all the members first and last names. When I started there, I was horrified! Suprisingly, I learned them fast. Unfortunately, I have to leave myself notes about everything and notes that I left myself a note. I can't remember appointments without writing it down and putting the note on my desk.

Peg, that is what I have started doing! It used to be things went on the
kitchen calendar and that was fine but sometimes I didn't write down
things that would later become important, at least to me. So now I
rely heavily on post-it notes and I keep a notebook handy and write
down everything I can think of that I'll want to remember 6 months from
now!
I don't have a problem really with names but I've never had to meet as
many people as Jives. Just think about it. The kids go and meet what
8 teachers or so? Pretty easy to remember that number. Especially for
younger brains!
I know I'm forgetful and you guys please, if I start repeating posts,
tell me about it wouldja?
;)

What really amazes me, is how we find in time we have to leave ourselves notes and keep calendars and make lists etc. In all my studing and being educated about ADHD that is exactly what they say to do for the Child with ADHD hmmmm I have to wonder if we all have that to some degree or are our children with ADHD aging faster than we think eeeeeeeeeeeeeek what a thought. Ok just more warped thinking by me.
