Question for our British friends

Yesterday I was reading a January 06 Popular Mechanics Mag. In it was an article on the construction of Wembley Stadium in London, that was to be compeleted in May this year. From the pix shown it looks like a fantastic feat of engineering, with a 436 foot high arch, providing unobstructed sightlines for all 90,000 seats! It was said that the 2012 Olympics will be held there, it should be amazing.

It looks like it would be a marvelous place to visit. So have any of our FG friends been there yet?

Chance would be a fine thing.

We will be lucky if it's completed by 2012. It has been problematic from the start, with costly blunders, inefficient workers, and bad management. I have seen it as I have driven past it. It just looks like any other building site...

Wow that's a shame. Well it just goes to show, one can't always believe everything one reads. The article stated that the Stadium would be completed in May of this year! When it is completed though, it should be amazing.

Arnie pointed it out to me on the way back from Heathrow airport with Minks back in May and you can see the Arch from the London Eye...

Well it is sad that its not finished but what there is off it looks very impressive, as does the tube station too, all niced up.

I go past it (spitting distance) for work and use the tube station there.

It looks VERY big close up. can't wait for it too open:D

Didnt the sewers just sink recently?

It will be a great bit of work when it's done. IF it gets done. The Brits are pretty disgusted over the whole thing at the moment.

To be quite honest, if I had my way. All football would be outlawed,:-2 and all football stadiums turned into supermarkets.

Football is just another reason for the mindless idiots to start trouble. You never, ever, hear of "tiddly Winks" hooligans do you? Well DO YOU???

I LOVE football (soccer).

My dad played semi-professional football, my brother played for pleasure, and my sister was a certified referee in the US and worked with kids.

My daughter supports Arsenal....big time.

I support Chelsea....ha ha !

Only a minority of supporters are yobs.

When we were coming back from our FG meet-up, we had a brief encounter with some West ham supporters....merry ones....they were OK.

I also play tiddly winks with my grandchildren.....we have a real laugh. I try and keep them away from the TV and computer when they're with me. We also play snakes & ladders, Connect 4, Swingball and Quoits....old fashioned....yep....but we are doing stuff together and we have such a laugh.

WEll, as it's only 8.30 here.....not a lot. Made porridge and a cup of coffee and plonked my self in front of the pooty to catch up with you guys...looks like you've been having fun.

When hubby goes out in about an hour, I'm going to have an hours pampering and then .....not sure yet.

Going out with a mate to Bingo tonight. Haven't been since march when I won £500....that was when I bought the bike...

Yesterday was sorting, packing and cleaning. *sigh* Ever tried to condense the contents of a 3 bed house with large living room into enough to fit into a 1 bed flat with a small living area???? nightmare.

80% of our posessions are in boxes but I'm trying to make it still look like a home for the next 4 weeks.

It doesn't feel weird really....yet......maybe because (hopefully) my son will be living here. He obviously felt it was a 'happy home' or he wouldn't want to buy it for his own family....I'm glad about that ,because it means that although I wasn't always happy, the kids were.

I'm trying to do a thorough clean as I pack so that I only have to give a surface clean at the end.

I think it will be strange when I come back to visit and everything has changed...:-3
