38 and frustrated

Post by veronica_j »

Hi everyone! My name is Veronica and I thought this would be a good place to come to do a little venting, and maybe get some helpful advice as well. I turned 38 a few days ago, and I'm just feeling a little unfulfilled in my life. I don't want to sound like a whiner, and I know I should be grateful for what I do have, but I just feel like my life should be so much more than what it is. This period of introspection probably has a lot do with a two year relationship that recently ended. You do a self inventory, and feel like something of a loser because you're 38 and unattached, and not sure where your life is headed. Its not that I feel compelled to get married and have children, but I just feel a little empty and directionless.

In any case, I really need to get myself back on track, as I seem to operating on a short fuse lately. I went out a few nights ago for happy hour with my girlfriends. I thought a girls night out might be a be good way to get my mind off the recent breakup, and the last thing I wanted was any attention from men since my frustration level with the opposite sex is at an all time high ;-) Well, I end up getting hit on by a 50 something, overweight guy. Shortly after he introduces himself, he tells me that I have a lovely figure, then proceeds to guess my weight, height, and measurements (including bra size!). I was at a loss for words, but then he annoys me further by asking how old I was. I was completely outraged at this point. I told him that my vital stats were none of his concern, and that if he's in the habit of treating women like objects he should take his chauvinistic attitude elsewhere. Then I slapped his face, and told him that it was on behalf all women, past or present, who had to endure his offensive pickup lines.

My friends were shocked, since I'm normally very reserved, and in the past would have just found an excuse to avoid talking to the guy (and brooded over what I should have said/done days later). But then they broke the silence with a round of laughter, and some "you go girl" high fives. They also told me that I seem a little on edge these days, and either need some counseling or some valium ;-) I think they're probably right. I thought you folks might have some good techniques in mind to help me find an inner peace.

Hi, Veronica. Welcome to the garden. Pleased to meet you. is that your picture? You are very attractive.

We were all, each one of us, made to be sufficient in ourselves. We don't have to be in a relationship to have a fulfilling life. But, I'm sure the right feller will appear just when you least expect it.

I know, I know....you're right. You probably think I'm a real nut job. It was just really bad timing. I wasn't in a great mood to start with, and he was just so rude and pompous. Still, its no excuse. I suppose the classy thing to do would be to apologize to him if I ever saw him again.

Ive been out with enough stupid guys at the bars to know how idiotic they can be. And Im sure Ive had my fair share of "mental" moments myself. It has worked a few times though. :D

Just dont slap me unless I either really really deserve it or its "fun time"

Welcome by the way. You fell into a very cool place. Have fun Veron. :-6

LOL!!! That's a good one. Well, since you have some experience in these matters ;-) , could you explain to me the mindset of a guy who trys to break the ice with woman by guessing her measurements? I can't think of any woman who would appreciate that, and its hard to imagine that this approach has served him well in the past. It also didn't help that he really butchered my measurements! I almost wanted to tell him, "and for your information, my waist size is 26, not 28, and I'm a 36D, not a 34C". LOL

Damn right you're annoyed!

How would he have liked you guessing the size of his bits?

I'd have done it just to wind the sod up.

Welcome to FG BTW. :-6

Pinky, thanks so much for the kind words! As for the fellow in the bar, if nothing else, he may think twice about using that approach again. He was a bit dazed afterwards, rubbing his cheek and walking back sheepishly to the table where his buddies were. They, on the other hand, were laughing hysterically.

I can: He's an idiot. He deserved to get slapped. Actually he deserved a right cross followed by a bitch slap. Give him a taste of his own teeth. The guy is quite obviously a social leper, and knows it so has no qualms about acting like an utter ass in public. Of course, there's probably not much acting going on in his case. I think you did exactly the right thing, good for you Veronica!! :yh_clap :yh_clap

Welcome to FG, by the way....I'm sure you're going to fit in NO problem!!! :yh_peace

Hi Veronica...welcome to FG.

Guys like the one you've described have, to put it crudely, bollocks for brains. He wasn't even worth your attention past the first question.

First off, many thanks for the wonderful compliment. Secondly, I think that's very sound advice. For the time being I'm just going to relax and enjoy myself.

Gosh, I wish it were all just a joke. These life crises are not exactly enjoyable. However, I understand why you might be a little skeptical since you've probably had a fair amount of trolls come through here in the past.
