ODD Jobs

Post by Lulu2 »

RAIN and I have been chatting about strange jobs/careers.

I was telling her about a business which supplies specialized food items to the zoo. There are people who raise grubs, rats, crickets, mice, rats, etc. and sell them to facilities which house animals.

Every now and then you read about someone who tests underarm deodorants for a living.

My friend, Kathy, who is a reptile keeper, would apply Preparation H to the hemorrhoids on a Galapagos tortoise every day!

What've you seen or heard of...career-wise?

In Nepal, I saw people whose job it was to carry the dead down to the funeral pyre and light the flames.

In India too they have to burn the body on a funeral pyre so the person's spirit can get to heaven. Unfortunately wood is limited and VERY expensive so often many bodies are burnt together. This often results in partially burnt bodies which are then thrown from the ghats (like docks) into the Ganges, which is also where people bathe, wash their clothes and collect their drinking water!

I think collecting such bodies would be a horrible job! As would finding body parts from a suicide who jumps in front of a train! Also cleaning up after a major traffic crash or airline crash! I couldn't do ANY of these jobs! :-1

What about people who clean houses after suicides or murders?

Nope, couldn't do that either. OR be a hired killer who actually murdered someone!

But saying that, I couldn't be a nurse or doctor either who deals with blood and gore or who treats highly infectious diseases that are eating away people's bodies!

Years ago, I met a woman who worked for a proctologist! One of the things she did was help him "dilate" people who'd had hemmorhoids removed. When I asked how she managed to actually DO that, she replied that she'd MUCH rather do what she did than work for a dentist and "look into peoples' dirty MOUTHS."

That ws my youngest daughter's job - she started out cleaning out the Locust's cages and progressed as far as packaging the frozen mice for delivery.

Used the money to fund a year touring South East Asia and the Caribbean

THAT is funny!

My sis-in-law and I were talking about this one -- these ladies remove EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE in that region . . . so I can imagine it is not the most pleasant of jobs!

However, if someone likes to inflict pain on others, that sure is one way to do it

Woppy and others:

Do you think it would be a sexual or sensuous act to perform on a woman? Or would it be kinda gross?

I'm curious what our wonderful Garden men think on the subject  :)

Here in USA, people also wash & prepare people for burial for money, they are called morticians.

As for odd jobs, when I was around 14 or so, a Funeral Home was built next door to our House. I was not old enough yet to actually work at an official job. But the Morticians who owned the Funeral Home next door asked me if I wanted to earn a little money "off the books". Of course I said yes, not really knowing what they wanted me to do. They gave me a key to their place, and in the late evenings of the "wake" (that's when they had the deseased person on display for visitors to visit them) when no one was there, just me all alone, they wanted me to straighten out the chairs back into their regular places, clean out the ash trays, remove any dead flower arrangements, dust around the room, and even dust off visitors finger prints off the dead person's coffin. And then go down in the basement & dust off all the display coffins, to keep them clean looking for future perspective buyers. (I was a lot different back then, not so sure I would be doing anything like that now)

Well, I can't see that a lot of women would let a guy perform a wax on them in those regions, but as for it being sexual? well I suppose thats down to the individuals concerned.

Being gross? Providing the "Area" is nice and clean, then no.

Phew, you have no idea how hard it was to keep this post clean and serious.:wah:

Not sensuous in the slightest and not something I could do to a stranger (and to my wife only under protest).

Once it's done the results *could* possibly be sensuous but the act itself smacks too much of the sadistic for my liking.

Perhaps if someone enjoys the sound of screaming, they'd be good at waxing others!;)
