Help, going through hell in physical therapy
hey Godiva Girl, i am sorry you're suffering! :yh_hugs i am hoping that since it was your first visit it is a temporary reaction. as for counseling, take whatever help you can get...and of course let your doctor know about your symptoms, he/she may be able to alleviate it. i had my knee shot to hell, had to have total reconstruction and an ACL from a cadaver as well, every ligament was blown out. it took nearly two years to get back to normal and i still favor it because of the fear of re-injury, i thought i may never be able to run again, not a good thing in my work. so six months of PT was miserable, painful, and i used to threaten the therapist/sadists with dire consequences when i got back on duty! LOL....it was hell. but as you see progress it does get better. not the same situation as you, but i only wanted to encourage you to find your comfort zone and don't exceed it. you are not supposed to be that sick, so talk to the professionals. best wishes for your progress (((HUG)))...PS, i am fond of telling my Sgt. i may not be as fast as i used to be, but my bullets are! this is what he says: :-5 ...hang in there sweetie!!

Hope you get well soon Godiva. Physical therapy is not easy no matter what the injury Pain is the only constant but it abates as you get stronger. If they are telling you to seek counselling then you should do it because there are means to make you understand what you are going through. Understanding what is happening to you is half the battle. Learning to deal with it is the other half.
If you want to heal then do what is required, otherwwise, it will be longer, more painful and less effective. You aren't their first patient and they do know what is needed for the healing process

Help, going through hell in physical therapy
Hey Godiva..
I hope you feel better soon. Ya gotta get back on that horse ya know. okay.. now the serious stuff...
I do remember after my little incident with a motorcycle and pavement at a moderate rate of speed that upon being released from the hip high cast on my left leg I had to go to PT.. and I also still have vivid memories of the young lady that was a gorgeous Marquis de Sade.. yep.. in some instances PT is gonna kill ya.. but if it doesn't then you will be alot better for it. Now.. as far as the counseling goes, perhaps you should consider going to a sports shrink.. you did mention that you worked out at a health club and perhaps approaching it from that angle would be better. Additionally they may be able to relate to the frustrations that will prolly occur as you progress thru your PT schedule..
Anyway.. I hope you are feeling better soon..
be well and have a great day

Hey GG that all sounds like pure hell so sorry you have to go throug it. My only advise, get all the support you can, if you need the councelling go for it. At this point anything that is the least bit helpful has to be a good thing for you.
And feel free to vent here, darn shame this is so hard on you. I hope the physio proves helpful. I went through years of pelvic pain before I found a physio therapist that specialized in pelvic pain and that was helpful. But my pain was nothing like yours, trust me, I have no idea what your going through other than it sounds awful. I wish you well girl.

Help, going through hell in physical therapy
Hi there GG. My dad has had to deal with PT also. He had double total knee replacement because his knees deteriorated from arthritis. I took care of him when he got out of the hospital, taking him to PT every other day. This was about a year ago, and he is still recovering, but doing really well. I don't tell you that to discourage you, but to try and have you see that you need patience. I know it's a bi**h, but it's really important. My dad tried to blow it off a few times and I wouldn't let him. I talked to his doctor about things he could do at home to keep building his strength and he gave me some great resistance exercises that helped.
I can totally understand the benefit of counseling through this very tough time, because the mind can do amazing things for the body. My dad also experienced nausea from the pain, but yours sounds a bit extreme. Between the PT and the pain killers, it can really mess with your system. Talk to your doctor, possibly change your pain meds, but don't blow off the therapy. Physical OR emotional. A friend of my dads had one knee replaced and never went to her PT and that was over 2 years ago and she's paying the price now.
I like what you said about being a mean bit*h. Sometimes getting mad will help! It's got SO much to do with your mindset. If you're feeling sorry for yourself or getting discouraged, heck yes, get mad! Get mad at your body for betraying you, get mad at your therapist for putting you through the paces, just get mad! That, too, worked wonders for my dad. (The therapists my dad worked with were fantastic, and were used to getting called every name in the book.) Being at the very start of your ordeal you have a tough road ahead. But you CAN do it. Get all the help you need, and keep coming here. People really do care and as you can see, there's lots of supportive folks here. Good luck, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!! :yh_peace
