Suit filed Monday against Taser International by "prominent Sacramento
attorney" on behalf of the child of a 21 year old man who died last Sept.
16th after being Taser'ed following a police pursuit.
An investigation into the cause of death found that it was due to "cardiac
arrest associated with excitement during a police chase, and cocaine and
alcohol intoxication, occuring shortly after Tasering".
Umm, cocaine and alcohol? Can you say DUH? Of course, the lawyer
says the death was caused "by the application of the Taser".
At least he's not suing the LEO's involved...

VAL...you just KNEW i'd respond to this topic! LOL........there have been 70 deaths in the US of people who have been tased. invariably there were heart problems combined with meth or cocaine involved. my comment to all of the discussions i have had on this subject is WOULD THEY RATHER BE HIT WITH A TASER OR WITH A BULLET?? tasers save lives, where once the only option would have been shooting their sorry butts.

70 deaths. Compared to how many people getting tased? Probably hundreds of thousands?? Next thing you know our cops are going to be required to get a medical history of the criminal before thay can whip out their tasers. Cuz heaven forbid we lose anymore coked-up armed assailants... :-5 :yh_doh

Boy. This is crazy. I agree with LC, would the soon-to-be felon prefer a bullet?
Actually, why isn't he suing himself? Obviously, there was a malfunction of the Pituitary gland and the Adrenal gland!
Why not prosecute the drug dealer who sold him the drugs? What about Colombia for providing the cocaine? Why not sue the car manufacturer for allowing him to drive so fast? Why doesn't he sue the DMV for issuing him a driver's license?

one of the guys i work with made a traffic stop, of a coked up guy in a pickup truck who he had just watched make a drug buy. when he approached the vehicle the guy gunned it and dragged the deputy for at least a quarter mile. (bear in mind we ride alone, no partners in the car) the deputy had every right at that point to shoot to kill. instead, when the dirtbag finally stopped and bailed, he was tased by backup officers when he refused to surrender. he died an hour later. well next thing we know we've got racial accusations and protest marching through cracktown. i expected to see jesse jackson on our office steps. it finally died down after autopsy results showed enough crack to kill a fleet of elephants. but it was POLICE BRUTALITY! right.

ROFL@Babyrider! Man, I'd like to see even more nonlethal weapons in use, beanbags, sticky foam, high energy low frequency sound waves, etc. etc.
Now if they could just invent a "car taser" so that the policeperson could "zap" a person's car that is trying to run away.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with "On Star". That's the next project everyone is working on. The police will be able to contact On Star and disable/turn-off the vehicle remotely.
In about 5 more years, all new cars will have the new gps and control rom chips in their cars - making it a cinch for authorities to stop the car anywhere, anyplace.

I'd probably get flamed, then banned if I voiced my opinion on things like this, so I'll just keep my mouth shut... :yh_silent

Whoops, was that the sound of sliding down a slippery slope??, hell, we can make it even more efficient by implanting a chip at birth.
Sorry, I chose to install my own aftermarket GPS, [does'nt transmit], and keep my cell phone with single button -on/call 911- handy.

Geez...don't you wish that the police could march through the bad sections of town carrying signs that read "Crackheads Unfair to Police"? Too bad it doesn't work that way.
Don't worry, LC, like I told my friend, there are more of us "normal" people than there are "crackheads" so we'll stack the juries and vote the laws making life for them, complicated, miserable, and near to impossible!

I thought we were all going to just tatoo "the number of the beast" on ourselves. You know, a nice bar code so that the computer can scan us as we walk by.
