The American Flag

Post by 911 »

Back in the day when I was a young, young, very young hippy, they were arresting people for wearing the American Flag sewn to the butt of their jeans. Their contention was that it was disrespectful and therefore illegal. Nowadays, everything is made in the likeness of the flag (which is still disrespectful) but no one seems to mind anymore.

If I were one of those arrested back then, I would seek out a pardon. Especially since President Bush was photographed autographing an American Flag!

Just to refresh yourself on the etiquitte of the flag, check out the link below. Did you know that all those times the marching band twirled the flag around horizontically by holding the edges of the flag on the football field was improper? :o

Ettiquette is one thing, getting arrested for being disrespectful  to whom I wonder is another thing.

If a kid is wearing a flag on his jeans it tells me hes saying "hey I live in America and Im proud"

Exactly, but because they had long hair, smoked a little innocent pot and thumbed their noses at the establishment; they were arrested for all minor offenses.

We've sure learned a lot since then, huh? Freedom of speech has come a long way.

Maybe...unless you're a fan of the ammendment designed to make flag burning illegal!

I'd take it that way too. :)

I figure it's my flag too, so I can do with it as I see fit and so can the next person.

I never thought much about flags (except that I quite like the design of good ones). But when I first visited Northern Ireland I quickly realized how intimidating flags can be and colours and all that, it was a sobering experience.
