That's what I was thinking Pinky. I hope they figure out who left the cage unlatched.

They tried but these things take time - time they didn't have when the tiger kept advancing. I'm sure they would have avoided killing him if they could have.

Fla. Zoo Forced To Kill Rare Tiger

My heart goes out to everyone involved in something so tragic!

Adam's right...darting works differently if the animal is full of adrenaline and it's an imperfect method, at best. I know personally how devastated the staff of this zoo will be. Sumatran tigers are the most endangered of all....

Oh, #$%$!

Human stupidity. They shot the tiger to cover their @$$. Here's an idea- don't have any more zoos if the animals there aren't protected! There is a ration of these instances all over and the famous line is "the animal posed a public safety risk." Then why do you have them for the public to view?! Animals are not here for zoos.

Several months ago, some dumb 4 yo kid climbed into the "no humans allowed" bear area. A bear bit him *but didn't draw blood* and they killed both bears because "they may have had rabies" and because "they posed a public safety risk." What this really means is "we don't wanna get sued" for someone else's irresponsibility. Where were the stupid parents? And if the bear had rabies when he bit the 4 yo kid, he had it before too, so why didn't you kill them both then?!

Some jerk left the gate undone so the tiger got out , humans put their own interests and safety first and now there's one less tiger who didn't have to die. They have better tranqs than that I am sure. I've seen them. Maybe she's a really bad shot. If she'd known Enshala since she was born, isn't it possible she might have had a little bonding with the cat so she didn't have to just shoot it? I am always on the animals' side and these things P*SS me OFF! :-5

Red...you're frustrated about this & so am I! BUT--don't forget that zoos are ARKS, and without them, endangered animals like the Sumatran tiger will be gone within a couple of decades!

You're absolutely right that this was the direct result of human error and that's something this keeper will live with forever. Glad it wasn't MY error--you can imagine the guilt!

Please don't blame "zoos!" We do far more good than that!
