Reading about the head injuries just makes me SO glad she was wearing a crash helmet.
My husband & 3 kids all ride or have ridden bikes, and between them have broken numerous bones in their bodies through M/C accidents......normally caused by careless car drivers.
The crash helmet almost definitely saved Criss's life........
Get well quickly Criss...I miss you more everyday......:-4

More good news! They're taking out the chest tube, and doing a "swallow evaluation"...she was having trouble with thin liquids. They're going to monitor her lung function for another six to eight hours. If the swallowing and the breathing remain normal, she's going to get out of ICU!!!
YIPPPPEEEEEEEEE!!! No timeline for sure on that yet, but I wanted to pass on the great news. I'll post more later...have to go retrieve Matt's phones and get some of the numbers off of them.
Keep the prayers/thoughts/wishes/beams coming, folks. I firmly believe that it works!!

MamaRider sounds a lot more confident today. In fact I hazard a guess that if BR gets just a little bit more healed Mama will begin the obligatory 'what were you thinking of being on a bike in the first place?' that we all know is coming..:wah:

Removing that cervical collar is excellent news. Having had a broken neck I know what wearing one of those means. Washing her hair is yet another simple but good sign she want to look good that is excellent. :-4

Mama just got told that the sight is gone in it and will not be returning other then perhaps shadows. Very upsetting for her to hear, as I am sure we can all understand. BR has NOT been made aware of this yet as she is still in and out of it too often at the moment.
Was this the side of her head that was hurt? Maybe swelling or brusing on the optic nerve? I go with the never say never attitude till she is further down the road in her recovery.

Thanks flop for the comforting news about Criss, seemingly improving by the hour! C'mon next hour, & the next hour & the next! It pains me to hear about her right eye though. But as others have said, give it time, as recovery is still undergoing. So if it winds up that Criss can't see that good in her right eye, it will just mean she'll have to learn how to "aim" better with her left eye!
All the :-4 :-4 :-4 :-4 that can be sent has just been sent, can you feel it Criss!

As has been said, the right eye may yet come good but if BR comes through this and this is all she has to be concerned about then that is a good result. However, I shall continue to send healing thoughts and prayers, especially to the right eye.:-4 :-6 :-6 :-4

To answer a few of the questions I've seen on here....
Yes, her right side is the side where all the injuries are. The way it looks is that she went over the hood of the car and landed on her right shoulder and the right side of her head. The doctors and the cops all say that the helmet almost undoubtedly saved her life.
As for her extremities - there appears to be no damage there at all. She has been moving all four limbs, and all twenty digits respond to stimuli. Poke her in the toe, in other words, and she'll let you know she doesn't like it
We're being hopeful about her sight. As has been said, it's very early in her recovery and nothing is certain. The opthalmologist (somebody tell me if I spelled that right, please??) does not sound hopeful, however. But...he doesn't know our Criss like I - we! - know our Criss. She's a fighter, and always has been. So I'm a bit more hopeful than he is. The outlook (pun completely intended) is for a tough road ahead, at the very least.
She's gotten her feistiness back - if she ever lost it. She will cooperate with anything medical, and thank the nurses for helping her, but anything else, no way. She doesn't want anyone but herself to comb her hair, and she really protested when the nurse tried anyway. She managed it, too...it's not all done (and it still desperately needs to be washed) but she got the comb through it. Slept for half an hour afterwards, though.
Even with that broken collarbone she's using the arm on that side - the right, again. It amazes me every time she lifts her right arm.
She's doing her breathing exercises. Every hour she needs to take ten deep breaths, to keep her lungs functioning right. She gets through them like a trouper...although the breathing machine that they stick in her mouth to measure how much air she's getting in there "tastes like (something that didn't pass the profanity censor, sorry, but I bet most of you can figure it out)", according to her. Might see if I can bring some honey or jam or something to put on there. Have to check with her dietician.
You guys are so great to come home to. Every evening when I sign on here, I see pages and pages more of people sending love and support, and it's just wonderful. You may think you're not doing anything at all, but I'm here to tell you that ain't so. You're being a source of strength for me, which means I can pass that on to Mamarider (I love this nickname for her, by the way) and Criss. And when Criss can log on again, I know she's going to be grateful too. So...thank you. All of you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

my son
BRs mom asked me to do this..
"You guys are so great to come home to. All of you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you."
+++++++++ Oh, FINE! You wanted to make me cry? Well, you succeeded!
It's inspiring to think of the kindnesses, love and caring shared among a group of people...most of whom have never met, but who have developed a kinship of spirit.
GROUP HUG! GROUP HUG!

My candle's burning at both ends, it will not last the night. But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--It gives a lovely light!--Edna St. Vincent Millay
