European Men vs. American Men
OH BOY GG! first i know you are being very cautious online, right?? right?? here are my personal observations, but remember people are people the world over...styles and mannerisms may differ, as well as cultural differences. here is only my personal finding...i am American and know American men of course, i work in a man's field. but even their differences can be regional. there are so many factors! education, interests, prejudices, you know what i mean. we can't generalize or stereotype. so this is a tough question! FOR MYSELF only...i have certain interests, English history and literature among them. so i met an Englishman in the real world who embodies everything i love about his country, and we share the exact same interests. he is brilliant. and funnier than John Cleese. he's a gentleman. i love his looks which is important, and the way he treats me! we want the same things. what are the things that matter the most to you? intelligence? humor? honesty? style? mutual interests? some American girls really don't understand the European mindset, and it can seem so different. but if your mind is open you may well be fascinated. the man i love has every quality i want, but it's not because he's an Englishman, it just was right in my case. can you tolerate what may seem "foreign" to you? some cannot. and can you even forsee living in another country? a step that requires being very sure of what you want. so....come back and tell us more! details girl!

I have found these men to be very polite and nice to talk to. I have found them to be different from american men in conversation in so many ways. Has anyone else out there found this to be true?
Get them to come to FG and let your big brothers and sisters here vette them out!
It's easier to find out the character of a person when they are forced to talk about things other than themselves.
I agree with the others though. Be careful! Usually better to stay local and within social groups you are comfortable with.

Sure, there may be the occasional success story, but I have a hunch they are few and far between. Stick with the guys in your neighborhood, your school, your church...whatever. Someone you can view in many situations. People are just too damned tricky to put much stock into something you may read online.Agreed. The internet is the last place one would want to go seeking a husband/wife for that matter. These Internet, find love friends ect should be banned.

i thought the lady asking about internet relationships (busybee) may want to see this thread!

Obviously as an Englishman I am suave and sophisticated and am rarely seen not magnificently trousered and wearing my burgudy silk smoking jacket with watered silk lapels, my feet are encased in slippers of the softest leather hand chewed by Andalusian goatherds.
Obviously for someone such as myself the culture shock of meeting an American of the opposite sex was a fairly daunting experience. However I think I triumphed in the end, also in the end there is always the strategy to "Lie back and think of England"

I think that people turn to online romance sites because it is so hard to find someone and people get lonely. Unfortunately there are people out there that are sick and love to take advantage of people. I have heard some good stories about people who met online, but I have heard a great deal more of horror stories from people meeting online and getting together with someone.
I've had a couple of replies to a similar question today, i posted a thread (curious: internet love ? - some useful tips have been posted), ........because really i am curious; Most of the responses have been success stories and highlight the importance of being cautious. I think maybe people turn to online dating sites because it's convienient for most - can do it from home - in the middle of the night - whenever they're feeling especially lonely etc. The media does tend to raise an eyebrow at this kind of dating with the horror stories, and it's true - if chatting to someone and then deciding to meet this person - how can you be sure they are who they say they are?

Ohhh cap'n you stepped on a very sensitive spot with me. Funny this topic is all over the garden lately.
As for love online, I can only say use your spidey senses and look before you leap.
There are a few of us here who have current partners whom we have met online. I am happy to report myself as one. Did I fall for him online, not quite but it sure build a nice base for us to persue a real time meet and now we are a happily dating couple and I thank our internet dating site for that.

European Men vs. American Men
The internet certainly imporved my love life as I met my wife online. She was the 10th gal I meet online.
I do think it is easier for people to lie online.
One gal I met online could not actually meet some guy she really liked online because she had told him to many lies.
Who knows perhpas he did the same thing.
I don't think the internet is any more risky then real life. Some people are honest and some people are not. It is the same people. People on the internet may on average have more money and be more educated then average. And if they can type unless they have an accomplass they can at least read and write.
