If people are not treated, they suffer tremendously
So freaken what? He is in prison. It is not supposed to be a party. I'm sure his wife suffered as he was killing her! If he had divorced her, like a normal person does when they are not happy with their spouse, then he could pay for his sex change. As a taxpayer, I'd be infuriated for my money to go towards something like this. :-5

JMHO...this case represents a lot of what's wrong with our prison system. The citizens of California have also paid to remove and replace the teeth of Richard Ramirez (AKA "the night stalker".) Convicted of mutiple murders 20 years ago, the man is still alive, has married, and continues to file appeal after appeal.

What's next? Plastic surgery to improve a convicted murderer's self-esteem?

I'm sorry if the majority of health insurances won't cover a sex change operation, why should the state pay for one.

Perhaps I'm missing the point but how the heck can anyone realistically undergo a Real Life Test in prison? It's required that you undergo RLT before you have SRS (sex reassignment surgery, incorrectly called a sex change operation). I have to agree with that position.

Hormones? Fine. Psychotherapy? Fine. Clothes and makeup? Fine. But no RLT should mean no SRS. Simple as that.

What is a Real Life Test Casey?

Frankly I don't think they should be given horomones, psychotherapy, absolutely!

While I am favor of the procedure, if needed (see my thread about the teacher in Batavia, NY) I do not agree in it in this case. I have to wonder why he wants it done. To get sent to a women's prison?

A Real Life Test is a period of time (I think the minimum recommendation is 1 year) in which the person lives full time as the sex they wish to physically transition to. This is to give them a better idea of the life they will be living. Some people go through the RLT and discover that transitioning isn't something they really want to do after all. Which is exactly why it's required.
