Have any of you tried match.com?

Post by CheshireCat »

I tried it for a month, I thought what the hecl? You might have better luck in your neck of the woods, but i live in redneck country and it was slim pickins! I went out with one guy and he wanted me to drop everything and move to Nashville (about 170 miles away), move into his house and just be there when he got off work every day. I told him to get a dog!

I am swaping e-mails with this guy that I met on there that seems really nice, but we've been writing to each other for over a month and i can't get him to meet me for coffee. He lives right here in the same town too. Oh well, he has no idea what he is missing! :sneaky:

Hey Flop, my sister used EHarmony and met a pretty nice guy. She was in Iowa and he was in Wisconsin, he ended up selling his house and moving to Iowa.

Hey Flops and CSquared --

Go for it! Dating and mating is a numbers game. The more you're out there, the better chance you'll have of meeting a good person.

Best of luck to my two Garden friends :-6

I hate to admit it, but I think I tried every dating site out there, with various results. And in the end, I met someone off the forum section of one of these sites - total fluke, I guess.

My advice would be to avoid Match because it is a massive rip-off. Most services require you to pay if you want to contact someone, but allow you to read incoming email and reply to it for free.

My best results were with Lavalife and PoF (the first is moderately expensive, while the latter is free). Of course, both are Canadian sites and I do live in a largish city, so that might explain the selection. But I know that LL has a pretty large membership in other countries as well, especially the US. I've had my share of creepies, but I found that there are many educated folks on LL and that they generally read your profile rather than just gawking at your pics. But avoid the Intimate Encounters section because it's STD central *shudder*

PoF is obviously not so discriminating. I kept a profile because I'd made some friends on the forums before getting banned, but it clearly states I'm engaged and just looking for friends. However, I still get the "hey, baby" e-mails, although not as many as before. I think the reason why I mention it is because I met my fiance there, so there must be some decent men lurking there. And they do have a lot of socials and meets, so you can go and make friends too.

I'm very surprised that someone actually has a success story off E-Harmony. For me, it was kind of funny. The first time I attempted to post the profile, the system told me that I fell into a very small group and there wouldn't be any chances of matching me with anyone :wah: The second time, I actually managed to create a profile, but since it doesn't allow you to search, it matched me with people I had nothing in common with. The best part came when it matched me with a good guy friend of mine (whom I used to be madly in love with in university) and said we were 90% compatible. You know, that was my "I KNEW IT!!!" moment :wah: But alas, it wasn't meant to be ... thank God for small favors :wah:

Feline I am not stalking you but you sure make me laugh.... Lavalife here in Cowtown is just a big ole Pond of Fish ahahahahaha you date one, you date them all, they all hang out together, they all inter date and next thing you know you are everybodies business, way back in the day I learned that real quick and ran fast and ran far. There was no privacy with Lavalife here.

If I may ask you

Do you date? :-4

From your FG trip pictures I can see how attractive you are on the outside.

And from your postings I can say the same about your insides, too :-6

Imagine how scary it would be if i actually find some guy with a compatible personality to mine...:

Bez -

Don't be a scaredy cat and go for it!! I must have met 150+ guys in about 2 years. It sounds exhausting, but I had a nice social life, which helped since I'd left my cosy upstate NY uni for Ottawa, where I didn't know anyone. Most of them weren't boyfriend material and I knew it, but the nice thing about online dating is that it offers a lot of different possibilities: you can fish people for a night out, an event, a concert, convo over coffee, 6 a.m. breakfast, friendships, etc. And there is such an inexhaustible source, provided you live in a biggish city, that you'll never spend a weekend home. You may not walk out with a partner, but you'll meet people from all walks of life, engage in new activities, do new things, etc. And the best part is that it gives you a MAJOR self-esteem boost and makes you more sociable and easy-going. I'm not a beauty, but getting hits all the time definitely felt good :wah:

Hey ya'll!

I just got back from Wal-Mart. Apparently, you can meet guys in the snack section. I had a long conversation with a hadsome fireman about the new varieties of Wheat Thins. :D

No number, I was a little off my game. But it's made me smile.

I was on another forum where a number of women talked for several months about their experiences on match.com. Not a single one found a lasting relationship from it, although they did get a number of dates with guys who didn't pan out. If I just wanted to play the field, I'd get on match (I'm a guy).

I met Mr. Felli online, on a personals service - although we really met on the forum part, not the ad part. So the folks who are serious can find each other.
