BigScaryMonster wrote: Hey nice to meet you. I hope you have a good stay. Although, maybe you can help me with a little information, from a person who lives in Ireland to someone who has ties to irish heritage.

My family is very into genealogy, and even though you can't account for everyone in your family, my line is traced very far back, I believe roughly 40+ generations and loose ties beyond that. I even know what my family crest is, which they adorned their shields before they went into war. But enough about that.

My family name is Pollock, and according to this genealogy, that name was very prominent in Scottland and then Ireland. Just out of curiosity, to see how my line's doing, are there many Pollock's in Ireland?

And before anyone tries to launch a joke about me being from Poland, note that the spelling for a polish person is Polack, or Pollack. The spelling of my name is different, and I haven't found anything to suggest I have any Polish blood in me at all.Hello and welcome to FG. Outside Dublin this name Pollock can be fornd exclusively in Northern Ireland in counties Antrim and Tyrone.

In the late twelfth century 'Peter, son of Fulbert' had a grant of land in Upper Pollock in Renfrewshire and took his name from it. The placename itself means 'little pool'. The name remained popular in Renfrewshire and spread throughout the lowlands of Scotland.

The name first came to Northern Ireland in the mid-seventeenth century. One family in County Down, was descended from John Pollock, a lieutenant,a foot soldier serving in Ireland.
