I believe anything is possible. I believe that your subconcious is constantly on alert, processing information you're not even aware of. I believe in believing your gut. I believe there are "presences" and spirits or something like it that we cannot explain. I also believe that when we die, we will get the answers to these questions.

Any ideas?
I could just be drinking too much coffee
Could it be the presence of an angel watching over you? :-3

Yup, I believe in them, too.
So, moverguy, is it a comfortable feeling, or an eerie one?

Yes !! I lived in a house for 6 years that was haunted...I nor my husband believed in ghosts...but often as we slept upstairs footsteps would come up the long flight of stairs and turn and go into one or the other of four bedrooms...never the one occupied by us...we have followed, chased and otherwise persued the steps...just ahead of us with nothing attatched that was visible...our dog, a Boxer would watch the steps go by with hackles raised and not budge..would not go after them. We followed them into the basement, to the coal bin, to under the house, to the attic, to closets and under beds but nothing could be seen...the brave watch dog would not even go with us to investigate...she would tear the leg off anyone that was going to do us harm but would not venture near the noises...but she heard them and watched from whence they came with hackles raised and all muscles taunt...scared the heck out of a person just to watch her react...we felt there were 'two' and jokingly named them Mabel and Herman and for 6 years we tried to account for strange things happening other than footsteps that were heard but unseen. We were never bothered when the children were awake and at home...either when they were at school or asleep at night..so we wouldn't tell them as to not frighten then in their own home...we sold the house and just before we moved my husband was facing the open door to the hall landing...I was facing the same way...I thought he was asleep, he thought I was...when suddenly he said "Did you see that?" and I said "Yes"........a foggy figure had formed and stood for a few seconds where we could see it....as though to say "goodbye".... months later my daughter was asked to babysit the children of the people who bought the house...I waited up for her and when she came home she remarked that she had baby sat in that house for the last time....that it was scary...had gotten up to go to the door when the owners came home as she had heard them come through the kitchen heading for the dining room...but when she got there there was no one there...and the little boy complained to her of shadows on his walls at night....nuff sed...I do believe now...don't know what was in that house (built in 1904) but will someday...
Preach the gospel at all times and if necessary use words..:driving: .a thought home.

When I was young, I always felt a presence following me around. I just suddenly went cold, and turned around to see nothing there. Then one day I was at my friends house, and again felt the same feeling, and just at that moment he shivered as well, and one of his belongings fell of a shelf.
Ever since then I've never doubted ghosts or anything similar. Spooky!! :yh_ghost

My husband and I both saw the same ghost at the same time.
It was a man but he didn't seem to notice us, he just walked right past us without looking at us.
So I definitely believe in ghosts.

MY Ghost Story:** * ** * * ** **
Ghosts, like UFOs are never believed by people unless that person has actually experienced it.
As for ghosts.....Here's my personal experience. Make of it what you will.
In the late sixties, my very progressive parents took to taking in runaway flower children in Boulder, Colorado. These "hippies" were usually younger girls, who were destitute and homeless. My father was a scientist for the National Bureau of Standards, so we had space and money to burn.
The only rules that applied to the guest were:
1. You had to be in school or have a job. My family helped with both of those things.
2. No drugs in the house.
In exchange for this small behavior, the runaway was made an honorary member of our family. They ate at our table, stayed rent-free, and played with us kids.
One day a girl came along who was very different from some of the rowdier drifters that had stayed with us. her name was Rae Jean Kelly.
She had runaway from an abusive father, and I have to tell you, she was everything that was right about the flower power movement. She was a joy to be with, she wrote songs and excellent poetry. She played Sitar music and burned incense and was highly intelligent.
Although she had been through some hard times, and was sleeping in the street when we found her, she bounced back with an unparalleled enthusiasm.
With my family's help, she went back to school, cleaned up and began what we were all sure was a wonderful life.
She often stated that she had never really had a "real childhood or family" and that the experience had changed her and given her hope.
Then............one fateful night......She went for a ride with some of her friends on a high cliff road. The driver had been taking LSD. No one is quite sure what happened, but everyone in the car was killed. Rae Jean went into a coma and never woke up.
We were all distraught, of course. I was only 9 at the time but Rae jean had been my baby-sitter for over a year so I missed her terribly.
Her room had been downstairs next to mine, everyone else lived upstairs. About two nights after she had died. I began to have dreams. I felt as if someone was in my room.
During the course of the next few weeks, things got worse. I began to wake up in the middle of the night and hear music coming from her room. I could smell incense burning. Her perfume hung in the air throughout the house.
I finally couldn't take it any more, so I asked my mom one day if I could move upstairs. When she asked why, I told her what was going on.
She got the most horrified expression I have ever seen on an adult then or now. Apparently, she had also been having "experiences". She found the bed slept in every morning, despite the fact the the door had been locked.
She had found the furniture moved, and records on the turntable. Needless to say, we soon moved to a different house.
That would seem to be the end of this story, but a couple of years ago, I passed through Boulder again and decided to see my old homestead.
A nice German lady agreed to give me a tour of the house, despite the fact that her husband and son had been killed in a tragic plane crash the month before.
As I entered the house, I got that strange "hair standing up" feeling again. When we got to the room that used to be Rae Jean's, I noticed that the door was still padlocked shut.
I asked what that room was used for now and the poor lady turned pure white while she stammered, "No one goes in there anymore."
She went on to explain that the room had a history dating back to the original owners (us). This is interesting because we never told anyone about Rae Jean. It was a personal family secret.
Apparently, guests who had stayed in the room had terrible experiences. Attacks in the middle of the night, sheets being pulled off, books flying, that kind of thing.
Worse yet, the three families that had owned the house since us had all had terrible tragic deaths in their family.
You see my point don't you? Rae Jean is still there. Why? I don't know. Maybe it was the only place she felt comfortable in her whole life. Maybe she's waiting for us to return. Maybe she's just lost.
But there's no doubt in my mind anymore.

Ever really see or feel a ghost
I have, once. Back in the mid 1980's when I first moved here to Rochester. Well, actually had been here a year, but had decided to make it my permanent home. My mom, at the time had passed on 4 years earlier. One evening I was home alone, lying on the couch. I had been dozing, and was just waking up. I then swear I observed a shadowy presence crossing the room. My immediat feeling was that it was my mom, coming to check out the place. Never felt her that strongly before, or since, but there have been other times, especially around major life changes (like when I got married 4 years ago) that I have had strong, vivid dreams about her..the one arround my marriage had my husband and I in my family home, and my mom was cooking for us. Now Rick has been to the old house, as my brother lives there now. But he never met either of my parents, as they had both died long before I met him.
Ever really see or feel a ghost
I've just recently had an experience with a ghost.
My boss says that the bar is haunted by her mother, who built the place from the ground up and watched it grow into a thriving business before she died, and her daughter, (my boss) took over. The place has been in business for 60 years now, and Shirley is convinced that her mom still hangs around. Well, the ol' lady is pushing 80, so we kind of pat her on the head and leave her to her illusions. HA. Some illusions. The other night, I was looking for my keys to get into the liquor room. I keep all my keys bunched together on one big keychain. I have the bar keys, my house keys, my car keys, the fob that remotely locks and unlocks my car, keys to my sister's house and keys to my father's house, and various funny keychains. So it's a BIG bunch of keys.
Anyway, I'm looking for my keys, and usually I lay them on the back counter in the kitchen so that I can see them from the bar, and have access to them when I need them. This particular night, I laid my coat on the same counter instead of hanging it up. When I went to look for them, they weren't there. I flipped my coat over to see if I'd moved them and put my coat over them and not realized. Nope...no keys. I would have heard or felt them had they been there. I asked my waitress if she'd seen them or used them and moved them. No, she said she'd last seen them on the counter where I'd put them. I went to have one more look, and there, on TOP of my coat, were my keys. Now, there is no way in hell I could have grabbed them with the coat when I flipped it over and not noticed them. They simply were NOT there, and then they were. Creepy, and kinda cool at the same time.

after being brought up by a seventh daughter of seventh daughter with all sorts of (what I considered) strange beliefs and customs, I had a healthy lol attitude to ghosts/spirits, but the last house I lived in there was definitely something. We called her Mrs Mason and all she really did was clonk up and down the stairs and move stuff about..and some strange mist stuff in the kitchen that even a workman saw...never ever scary, just vaguely tangible. I could smell her sometimes too, if that doesn't sound too daft...tobacco and carnations.
anyway, I moved in 2003 and this is a quiet house so I I can't blame my scattiness on anyone anymore:wah:
I don't know if I believe in ghosts as such...maybe an impression from the past or future left for us to pick up. There's more to planet earth than we will ever know..

I'v never experienced an encounter with a ghost in my life, I always try to keep an open mind but I find it very hard to believe in something I can't see, feel, something that cannot be backed by scientific evidence and doesn't conform with the known laws of physics. Reading the posts so far have given me abit of a chill, buT I can't say I'm convinced.

Ever really see or feel a ghost
Those who have seen ghosts have all the luck. As a schoolboy I was a boarder in a Castle than dated back to the fifteenth century and which had seen more murders and untimely deaths than a small republic might suffer in a minor civil war. Amongst those who came to grief within its walls was Catherine of Aragon and whose ghost - along with those of several Dukes of Manchester plus the wraiths of lesser fry - was said to haunt the place.
I have to say that I and many other boys kept watch religiously over the years but saw not a sign of anything that could be a ghost. By the time we left for Cambridge, scepticism had well and truly taken root.
It was probably too cold.

I think that people do definetly and genuinely experience strange things from time to time, however, what the material reality behind such occurences are is more to do with human perception and conciousness than say the reality of their being life after death or ghosts or hauntings by individuals who have died but remained "here" in some nonmaterial form somehow. I think that this is underlined by the fact that the anecdotal evidence of ghosts in human culture as well as spirits and other beings is huge, but there is no really hard evidence whatsoever of anything of that nature being "real". I don't think that this makes the area less interesting, but I think that when presented with a sober analysis of these types of events its hard not to be, if not dismissive, then highly skeptical about the more fanciful claims and theories that are put forward about such things.

i dont know if i believe in ghosts or not. once i was at a neighbor's house and stood vigil with them as his mom died. (i am a rn. get asked to do this quite often. never bothered me before) well, later after this person died and i came home, i felt her presence with me for days. it was eeeeeeeerrrrrrryyyyyyyy. it
gave me the creeps. after days and days of this i started praying out loud for god to find her and take her home. all of a sudden my back door flew open with a crash and i knew she was gone. and the creepy crawly feeling on the back of my neck was gone...............................thank goodness.
out of all the people i have been present for when they passed from this life into the next, this is the only one that seemed to haunt me.
