Scariest Movie of all time...

Post by Sheryl »

Ok so Halloween is around the corner and I have a question for everyone. In your opinion what is the scariest movie of all time?

Exorcist was scary, however the only movie that has ever scared me so bad and still sticks with me is a "B" movie titled "Day of the Animals" It was one of those movies that came on Saturdays back when Grandpa Monster used to host a scary movie mattinee. Anyone else remeber this? Anyways the movie was bout how the hole in the ozone gets so bad that it starts affecting the animals and they in turn start attacking humans. I know sounds cheesy, but when your 10 or 11 it really sticks with ya. :o

Exorcist was the scariest movie for me. I went to see this movie one night - came home and my younger sister had untwisted all the light bulbs in our house.(BRAT)

That cured me - I don't see scary movies anymore.

The Exorcist was scary- kinda but I think Freddy is way worse!

I was home alone one weekend, and for some odd reason, rented all the Nightmare videos. Did not sleep well at all.

Another that really messed with me was one called Stir of Echoes. It had Kevin Bacon in it. Scared the heck out of me the first time I saw it. My husband still jokes with me about renting it again sometime.

I used to like the little song - 1, 2, Freddie's coming for you .... that was such a funny thing to put in it made the film seem less scary to me, so I didn't mind it so much. The one that frightened the life out of me was Friday the 13th, the first one. There was a boy lying on a bed, and lots of creepy music playing so you know SOMETHING is going to happen. You look around, trying to guess what's coming when suddenly this knife comes up through his throat! Urrrggggghhhh!

That scared the **** outta me and I was scared to go to bed for months afterwards! I used to sleep with my hands under my neck so I'd feel the knife before it got me and then I could jump up and run away! :o

Yeah I know, but it just seemed weird having a kids song in a scary film. I used to sing along with it and it just wasnt that scary after that. Also I'd seen Robert Englund in "V" where he played the 'good' alien. I just couldn't really picture him as a bad guy after that!

Similarly, when I was a kid I saw a film where Robert Mitchum played a bad guy who kept trying to catch 2 kids. I can't remember what its called now, but I've never liked him as an actor since then, I find him quite creepy.

Annabelle and myself watched "The Ring." I am not normally a person given to hysterics etc with horror films. I know about special effects etc, and find most horror films amusing. However, as soon as the film was finishing (At around 2:30am) My phone started ringing. I jumped in my seat like a scalded cat. "Who the hell is phoning me at 2:30am?" I had visions of all the things I had just watched. I reached for my phone, with great trepidation. Then caught sight of Annabelle sat slightly behind me, laughing her head off. She had dialled my phone from hers. I was not amused, but she was.

#2) Psycho

#3) Jaws. It still has me scared of going into the ocean. I'll only get my toes wet.

My top 5 would be -

Halloween (1st film in the series)

The Haunting - (1963 version)

Nosferatu - (Max Schreck was SO grotesque)

The Entity - (starred Barbara Hershey, I think)

Salem's Lot - (prefer TV version with David Soul)

An old black and white movie called Black Sunday. Saw it when I was a kid. It's about witches and being tortured.

I think so! It starts off with this witch, getting a mask with spikes in it, hammered into her face.

The Shining........there's something about that like kid pedalling through silent, empty, psychedelic-carpeted hotel corridors that gives me the heebie-jeebies. And when those dead, freaky twins appear!

And Jack Nicholson was just born to play that role.....

Hmmm that's a difficult question because very few horror movies have actually scared me. I guess though that like everyone else the famous Alien scene was frightening when I was young. Though it is kinda funny now when I watch it.

I like all the slasher movies for a fast scare, but the things that really scare me are the things that can be possible in your life.

Jaws made a big impact on me,i was young and i did not pee in the toilet for a good month.

But my top two that come too mind right now are Silence of the lambs and the movie seven.

Things that could be next door too you are what nightmares are made of.

And oh yea.Poltergeist, that movie was just too much.I don't do ghosts.

I ran out of the cinema and refused to go back in. Even hearing the heartbeat style music can send me in a panic. I slept on the sofa for 6 weeks after it. Was too scared to go to sleep alone.

Based on real life events to. The novel by Frank De Felitta is scarier...

I love horror movies. There's nothing better than a good scare to get the adrenaline going. I love the American versions of The Ring, the Final Destination movies have some great gory moments in them, the Saw movies are pretty good. How do you define scary? Some gory movies are scary but I personally think films where you don't know what's coming and you imagine you see things are the best. The Sixth Sense was a really good movie. The Exorcist is pretty high on a list along with The Shining. I think if a horror movie entertains you without you looking at the clock then it's done it's job. Hope this hasn't gone on for too long but I'm new to the forum. Hello everyone! :)
