:-6 About 3 years ago my partner and I along with her 2 young children moved into a new area ,It was horrible not the house you understand just the people no one would even look at you let alone say hello . The people in the local shop were no better £ 3.50 no please no thank you slam your change on the counter i looked at sue, her face said it all, the move was a big mistake .A couple of nights later I went for a pint in the local pub every one stares like I've got 3 heads and no one talks ,I go home , the next day i had to go back to we used to live i pop in my local pub , its empty except for 1 old boy who I used to talk to a lot , he was a nice guy i liked him , he used to tell me the same story about the war every time i saw him but i really did not mind i my eyes he had sacrificed a lot saw his friends die at a very young age for the very freedom we take for granted, he asked how the move went , i said not well I've never met such cold miserable people they wont even talk to ya .He said did you talk to them then ?

The look on his wise old face said it all . why should they talk to me i never spoke to them . Right I thought i'm going to talk to and smile at every one , paper shop next morning the lady glum as yesterday people in the line sooo unhappy , my turn good morning how are you not so nice today is , nearly a smile not quite , next morning i say the same she smiled and said good morning i wish all my customers were like you ,the old boy was right

next day all the neighbours i went straight up except for a couple they all shook my hand and were all friendly, next stop the pub i went up to biggest guy there put my hand and said i'm jim I've just moved here I've heard your the boy to know how are you whats it like here , he stood there for a moment looked me up and down said hello , next the bar staff i made a point of being polite and friendly they all smiled back , gradually everyone was smiling at each other

the only down side is if there is a guy that has just filled his socks with custard and thinks his neighbour is a martian and is controlling him with radio waves via his fillings they all come and talk to me for i'm the only guy grinning like an idiot ha ha

logen now that's funny and Hamster i smile and am nice to every one i meet and i reckon its contagious coz every one smiles at me now ... of course they could be thinking oh no here's that weirdo again we had better smile or he will only come and talk to us ha ha

Hehehe who could possibly think of you as weird because you like to smile a lot, nothing wrong with smiling!

Though certain 'other' things you may do might make people consider you to be a little weird.

You know, usually a smile or a kind word is just a pleasant turn of the day but you don't always knwo that for some, a smile or that kind word from you can change their whole day and sometimes even their life, if they were planning on doing something drastic and you were kind to them. You just never know.

i always make a point to look the elderly in the face eye to eye and smile and bid them a nice hello. they are always surprised and smile and talk to me. (most, anyway) we live in a culture of being in a hurry and overlooking the elderly. i have made it a point to acknowlege them when i can. like in walmart, the grocery store, stuff like that..........

That's a good point, Guppy. You know I don't like it much when strangers (like cashiers and such) call me endearing names like hon and sweetheart and stuff. But have an elderly person call me something like that and I just melt. Sure many are crabby old crabcakes but most have a story to tell if you make time to hear it.

I talk to every old person i plan on being 1 one day , they have all the wisdom

and answers you need all you have to do is listen and its all free

my elderly neighbour cant walk far but he gets to his gate and stands there

knowing as soon as i see him I'll go and have a chat, this is our chat yesterday

me how you doin then, him morning etc we have small talk for a while then he says

i wish i was your age again jim. me what would you do if you were my age then Brian ?

brain for a start I'd stop wasting your time talking to old farts like me I'd get down

the pub and pull some good looking women .... classic we both really laughed

people honestly there must be a world of Brian's out there talk to them , they are

funny,wise kind and nice just talk to them you'll enrich both of your lives if you do
