Keeping up with the Jone's

I am one of those people who could care less what kind of neighborhood I live in, as long as my neighbors are good people. However I'm living in a town where if you do not have the latest or best item your nobody. If you do not live on certain side of town your a nobody. So I with my sick twisted sense of humour have devised a plan.

Someday when I win the lottery I am going to buy a couple of the empty lots on main street. Have a house built that is looks like Tara from Gone With the Wind. There would be elaborate gardens around the house along with a security fence. Italian marble floors will be through out the house. A dining room with a table to seat over 50 people. Basically a show house, because no way I'd want to live in something so extreme. Then on the front gate I would have a sign that says " Keep up with this"

Ha ha I know sooooo sick and twisted. But I don't play the lottery, so oh well. :wah:

I'm pretty lucky, my neighborhood is older and everyone has been there for a long time. We all know and love each other.

Unfortunately, the nice woman next door to me got divorced last summer and just recently began renting out the house.

I'm really going to have to talk to her about her choice of tenants. First they let her yard die. (It was a beautiful, beautiful lawn with wonderful flower gardens.) All the renters had to do was turn on the automatic sprinklers, but they just let everything die. Including some beutiful fruit trees.

Then they started putting out trash in fron of the house and never taking it to the dump. It piled up roof high. They never clean up after their 2 huge dogs (which bark loudly and incessantly all night) so we have a terrible smell all through the neighborhood now.

Also, they have three broken down cars in their driveway, none of which work.

Finally, they refuse to supervise their children, who have been caught stealing from houses all up and down the block. (They even stole my guitar, but we're so stupid that they pawned it the next day at a pawnshop, and it's very distinctive. All I had to do was call around. they even used their own driver's licenses. Duh. Of course I pressed charges.)

So if you drive down my street, you'll see rows of beautiful laws, nice houses, tall pines, and then you'll come to a house that looks like the "Munsters" live in it.

(sigh) Can you say "White Trash"?

Ugh I'm sorry Jives

We have a couple of rent houses on our block and it seems like there are new neighbors every month or so.

The new ones across the street we are watching closely because they have been coming up with some nice stuff to take and sell in Mexico. And they let their dog run all over the neighbor hood. I'm not sure how many diapers I have picked up out my yard due to that crazy dog.

Tara, okie-dokie? And then maybe turn it into a women and children's

shelter!!

My neighbors are on the whole pretty good. The trash one set put out

(I posted about it a long time ago) I finally threw away, and it's been

about a month since the last of it went and still not a word from them

so... yay.

I've been a renter, and had really good relationships with my landlords,

but I always kept the places up. One place the landlady gave me back

MORE than my original security deposit, and commented that the yard

"looks like a park"! So it can be done, depending on the people.

:D

Sounds like a plan! I like the idea of a women and childrens shelter.

I feel for you, renting is a big problem. Some tenants are excellent, others could give a crap about the house. Sounds like you have trouble next door.. DRUGS maybe.

If they had to pay the water bill along with the rent that's probably why they let the grass die.. The owner would probably like to know about these less than nice neighbors... DO YOU HAVE HOME OWNERS ASSOCIATION IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF THEM. I know some of the older neighborhood here in San Diego don't, and the rental houses are so easy to spot.. they all look like crap.. GET THEM OUT..NOW :-5

I don't have enough room in front of my house for a whole Tara facade.

My house is actually 2 houses that were moved in from a WWII POW camp that was nere here. They were then put on one foundation with 2 closets and a small hall connecting them. The door in the hall is where the front door of the second house is.

The rentals on my street are about to fall down. They are sooo shabby. We can always tell when there are new tennants, a new blanket hanging in the front window.

I just asked a neighbor if he was moving in or moving out.

He informed me that he was moving out.

First time I had ever seen him.

Have another neighbor I've talked two once and waived at on another occasion.

Like all the neighbors I have meet.

Still have yet to invite any to forumgarden.

I'm like Sheryl, I've lived in a lot of places and my needs are modest, but I've always taken care of my suroundings. Just so that I feel good about myself when I get home from work. It's also a courtesy to my neighbors. It's as normal to me as making the bed.

So I just don't understand people that don't keep their surroundings neat, it'd make me feel bad.

Sheryl that is the coolest idea and the sign idea is cute but in my twisted mind I pictured you fingering them while they read that ahashahahahahaha

I am so totally a "not for show" kind of person. I love my little chicken coop house, my very plain but tidy yard and the handful of young teens that gravitate to my humble home daily. For all my neighbors who may dislike my simple life, **** off! hehehehe

Precisely. And for whatever reason, there are some who insist on making themselves feel bad. Heel-nippers, I call them...because they seem to nip at the heels of anyone who seems happy or optimistic.

But....I see no reason why I should keep up with the Jones. (hair toss) I think they should keep up with me! (and I don't mean materially.)

Oh wow so glad to see so many who are like me and don't care if they have the latest and greatest.

Ok Paula I'll share with ya and my FG friends. Ya'll tell me your desires so I can have a handy list to go shopping by when I do win. I always have more fun shopping for others than myself anyways.

But seriously money doesn't buy happiness. I have more fun laughing and acting silly with my kids than wondering whether or not I'm wearing the latest fashion. Jeans and t-shirt are my style.

Sorry GMC I want an original British Mini Cooper

and a horse (still begging the hubby even said I'd settle for a miniture one)

I am the same, laugh about something is better than driving yourself crazy. We have always kept friendly with neighbors even though some are abnormal. Money is the ROOT to all Evils...I am a giver not a taker.

Sheryl continue to have fun and make the most of live, to hell with the neighbors, because if you have more than them, they feel deserving of it.

As a business owner working everyday while they are at the beach, makes it hard for me to refrain from comments, breathe, hey whats happening! :yh_beatup yup lifes is good.
