Brains versus Beauty

As protrayed by TV judging by the variety of quiz shows of every description imaginable, but has a rather 'sniffy' attitude towards beauty contests.

It appears that people who are thought to have achieved success through their looks are seen as less deserving of that sucess.

Why should there any more merit in being intellegent than being beautiful, since both are largely to do with environmental and genetic factors over which the owner has no control, although both can be enhanced.

What can be more worthy of celebration than beauty, surely life without beautiful things to behold is not worth living?.
Intelligence is certainly more meritorious and worthy because it takes work and beauty does not. We may be born with raw intelligence, but it takes hard work to master Quantum Physics, Phd's in many fields etc. so that our intelligence is on display. Beauty on the other hand requires no work other than preening and grooming. There's no comparison. Fortunate are those that have both.

I see children frequently who are born with high IQ. MENSA material from birth. These babies cognitive development and extraordinary intellecticual abilities are evident from as young as 3/12.
No, we don't disagree Florrie. Re-read my post, I'm saying the same thing. "Born with raw intelligence" , but then it takes work and effort to be able to employ that intelligence in some meaningful way. You are not just born smart and all of a sudden be able to do complicated engineering, biological research, medical research etc., you must go to university and study & develop that intelligence. How much real effort does the Beauty Queen make?
