The Rock

Post by BabyRider »

Some have probably seen this already, but I really like it and the story behind it, so here it is again...

There is a large rock by a highway in Iowa that area kids liked to spray paint and grafitti all over, usually with rather unpleasant words.

A man took it upon himself to paint a mural on the rock, and since then not one foul word or image has been painted on this rock. The flag looks like it is draped over the rock, but it's actually painted too. Pretty cool, IMO....

That is absolutely brilliant. I love it.

You know here in cowtown we have a few designated walls for graffitti and the kids to a fabo job of that. It isn't garbage it is actual art.

Another side note on graffitti, my daughter's high school has a "wall" the kids are allowed to graffitti-ize it. Well the hard core graffitti artists paint a "tag" something they use repeatedly in their "art". For a spell there was a real problem here with school wars and graffitti all over the schools so the police found out about the wall in the highschool and went down to take a look and ask questions and just by other students knowing the so called artist's tags the police were able to bust the offenders who were "arting-up" public property. Yeeeupp kids can be rather dumb at times.

Hehehehe

I wish I had an artistic flare we have a huge rock just near my parents house and it is constantly the victim of randome, henious drive by sprayings and it would be cool to art it up.

There has to be some artist in the community that would be able to do it. Why bother with one artist. Make it a project for local artists. You don't have to hunt down the artistically inclined. Put the word out to the neighbours and, eventually, someone will get something happening. It's easy enoughto do. Just talk around the neighbourhood.
