That is why, at least in the Catholic mass, they read the "Gospel according to Mark, or Paul" or whomever they are reading from that week.
I do not feel that the quotes can be called contradictions, unless you know the actual time frame that each event took place. They could have been hundreds of years apart.
You can guarantee that Exodus and John are several hundred years apart (700+) but if both the Old and the New Testaments are supposed to be the divine word of God and therefore inerrant you still have to explain such a direct contradiction as stating that Jacob had seen God face to face whilst stating that no man has seen God at any time.

Have you been face to face with God? A special moment you have trouble to describe?
Can we see God in a visible manifestation of HIS choosing? People saw Jesus, for instance, and did not die, etc? Moses saw God's back, and in the form of a burning bush? Jacob was able to look upon God in the shape of an angel who came to wrestle with him?

Ye hath neither heard his voice, at any time, nor seeen his shape. (John 5:37.)

I highly recommend you do a thorough study..........of course, you think you have done that. More is needed.

You are correct. Some things are literal, others are allegory, and so on. Bible study cannot be done in a perfunctory sense. Obvious by the questions that are asked.

I will give you a little information and I really don't care what you do with it. I have spent some 9+ years at university. I am trained in both Hebrew and Greek translation and interpretation as well as Biblical history. I have spent some 40 years in theological and theologically related subjects. I continue my formal studies at the Vancouver School of Theology. I have studied under some of the world's top recognized Biblical and Jesus scholars.
That being said, then you tell me to do some thorough study. Perhaps it is you who should do some.
I care not a whit what you believe but the condescending attitude is to say the least obnoxious.
You tell me to study. Go and do likewise.
I will discuss anything with anyone but absolutely detest any condescending attitude and also know full well that if anyone including myself thinks they have all the answers, they are delusional.

An interesting book to read is "The Sins of the Scriptures" by John Spong. It came to me, highly recommed by a scholar, who is not generally taken with Spong though does agree with much of what he says, as probably one of his best books.

Not only are there internal contradictions but there are external contradictions as well. By external, I mean those related to science, history and archaeology.
A couple of examples are no: Exodus as written, flood as per Noah, Joshua taking Jericho which was an abandoned town by the time he got there, no three wise men, no flight into Egypt. All are exceptionally important parables in the Hebrew story and convey many profound truths. They simply are not historical.

2 Tim 3:7 always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Twenty lifetimes coming and going and the above may hold as true. While others, truly surrendered to the Spirit of God, learn in an instant.
I'm not impressed with your credentials. Loads of people have them and show how they have reached their depth. Condescending, obnoxious......smoke screens designed to promote those credentials in a better-than- thou ploy.

Want to do history? Which is what's left of an event after everyone agrees on it and hardly the truth. Is not a science book nor intended as such ......... but, speak to the animals and they will tell you Job 12......archeology not meant to be that either. Summarized in John 3:16.
God is omnipotent and as such able to convey HIS truth as HE set out to convey it and see it through to the end, regardless of who messes with the content. You may believe it. Or not!

Does doesn't it Nevim. Unfortunately the correct word keeps escaping me. One day it is going to come to me. I simply don't see the need in being "snotty" for a lack of a better word when spewing how another posters credentials are no good. If a poster can't stand on their own merit without trying to tear down another posters credentials, then that person doing the tearing down has no merit to begin with.

I care not what you think of study etc. You do not know me nor do you know the depth of my faith. Therefore, to put it bluntly you don't know what you are talking about.
As others have said your post says far more than it words. about who you are and your own position.
As far as your words hurting myself goes LOL.
You don't like to be contradicted. You don't like it when people disagree with you. Nor do you like to support your position, or respond to questions with a clear answer. There is one thing that I have learned over the years and that is how much none of us really knows and how much there is to learn and how short the time is. I would say you are living in a delusional world. But, hey, if that is what you like, go for it.

One thing I can say for sure is that without scholarship we would not have the Bible we have today. We would be stuck with the KJV which contains ovver 20 000 translation errors. So much for scholarship. Disregard it and live in ignorance. They do say ignorance is bliss.
The Bible does say study to show thyself approved. Jesus is reported to have said that we shall know the truth and it will set us free. It is that freedom and truth that set me free from slavery to fundamentalist/literalism.

Ted is a real Chrisitan, you and Gatzilla are scriptural Nazis who cannot think for yourselves. You cannot even explain your point of view without quoting from Bible. Every answer comes from the source whose validity is in question, what kind of logic is that..I have faith but not in your literal interpretations of scripture.
You personally attack people like weber and guppy for simply stating their beliefs which happen to be different than your narrow minded views..You call yourselves Chrisitans I imagine real Christians are ashamed of you two.

Therefore, how you present yourself here is not who you are? A pretend-you, perhaps? But, you do assume/pretend to know me, don't you? And so do your friends here.
You lead with your credentials, asking those who read and see to be a respecter of them. Yet you know that credentials can be and are readily shot down as ..... anyone can have them, does not make anyone who has them orthodox, but studied in the area of the credentials. And when the moment has arrived and someone points this out to you, you fail to see how you've painted yourself into a corner. The corner of your credentials.
Your posts speak about you as well. Thought I'd point that out to you.
Then your credentials become a stumbling block and keep you from entertaining a thought other than what is generated by the credentials.
What are Christ's earthly credentials? Those of the apostles?
I will say to you what I said to Atsila. You do not know me. You do not know the depth of my faith or the extent of it. In short in not knowing me you simply do not know what you are talking about.
If you are interested in learning than ask. If you wish to remain blissful then so be it.
You are correct about one thing God will be my judge and I happily submit to His
judgment.
Your posts say more about you than any of your words say about me.
Shalom

You personally attack people like weber and guppy for simply stating their beliefs which happen to be different than your narrow minded views..You call yourselves Chrisitans I imagine real Christians are ashamed of you two.

Earth to Bat guy, you and the rest of those who claim to be "Christians", yet are under the sign of the Zodiac, and use well known denomic creatures for avatar's are the ones who mounted personal attacks, and you are still at it. Frankly, no, obviously neither you nor the other two don't know what a Christain is. Atlsia and I have been met here with nothing but open hostility... So go fly off and haunt some old house or fall on your knees in repentance to the Messiah Yahushua...
