When does a thread become a rabbit trail?

Post by Clint »

Wow! Some people carry their tourch wherever they go. There is at least one here who would turn a thread about how to make a pie into a political battle. I've transgressed myself in the past but not like I'm seeing now.

I suggest that if we have an issue burning in our bosom we start a new thread rather than take over one that isn't going our way.:yh_peace

just kidding!!:wah:

i did that last week in a thread, caught myself a few minutes later and went back and deleted my post.

i think the problem is that we start seeing ourselves as if in a conversation and just keep going from one thread to the next, ya know? and not everyone is following along..

but i'll try to be better sweetie..

cubbies in '07, ya think?:D
Wouldn't ya know it. The cleanest player in the game promises to do better.:o

Well I dunno but maybe I am the worst offender but I would say if you are going to single someone out just short of saying their name, nothing is going to change because whoever you are talking about isn't going to get it. I often respond to a post that is going off topic because it is interesting to me. Sometimes I take a thread off topic without meaning to. Sometimes it is off topic when I post.

Half the fun of posting is being able to be natural, have fun. I think that if going off topic is a problem, then the OP should be responsible for butting in and saying to butt out. Otherwise, if the OP doesn't mind, why should you.

Just my two cents.

And if it is me PM me an tell me. If it is someone else PM them and tell them.

Well first off, I thought it might be an interesting topic. Next, I've been surprised by how often it happens now. When someone starts a thread and a few others join in, there's an investment of time and thought that should be respected. I suppose there isn't much harm in joining in after soemone else has already done the damage.

Maybe it isn't my business. Maybe it's everybody's.

That she is a very nice lady, I'm sure. I really didn't have her in mind and I certainly don't want her to have indigestion.:yh_peace

I agree with Floppy here. Especially if we are going from one thread to another, giving responses, it is easy to forget where we are. It is as if we are simply carrying on a conversation with a group of friends, in a face to face environment. Easy to get distracted and hijack a thread.

Should these folks be made aware of it?

Or is that mean?

I think that I would like to be told (gently) if I was doing it.

IMHO, this thread started off as a religious thread...and, thank heaven, nobody paid attention to it.

IMHO...We can live very well without the traditional religious nonsense.

Well

If this is what is happening

Then clearly I must be one of the culprits

Well, gang :)

I will do my best to be more aware of *what* I'm posting and *where* I'm posting it.

I'm glad it was brought to our attention in a nice and nonaccusatory way

I'm not insulted at all

But I will try harder :-6
