For those born some time,ago!
We were born before television. before penicillin. polio shots. frozen foods, Xerox. plastics, contact lenses, Videos, Frisbees and the Pill. We were before radar. credit cards, split atoms, laser beams and ball point pens,'
before dishwashers. tumble dryers, electric blankets, air conditioners and before man walked on the
moon.
We got married first and then lived together (how quaint can you be ?). We thought 'fast food' was what you ate at Lent, a 'Big Mac' was an oversized raincoat. and 'crumpet' we had for tea. We existed before househubands, computer dating, dual careers, and when a 'meaningful relationship'meant getting along with your cousins and when 'sheltered accommodation' was where you waited for a bus. we were before day?care centres, group homes and disposable nappies.we never heard of FM radio., tape decks, electric typewriters. artificial hearts, word processors, yoghurt and young men wearing earrings. For us 'time sharing'meant togetherness, a 'chip' was a piece of wood or a peeled potato, hardware meant nuts and bolts, and software wasn't a word, Made in Japan 'meant Junk, the term 'making out referred to how you did in exams, 'stud' was something that fastened a collar to a shirt, and 'going all the way'meant staying on the Double Decker bus to the depot.pizzas, McDonalds and instant coffee were unheard of In our day, cigarette smoking was 'fashionable', 'grass' as mown, 'coke'was kept in a coal house, a joint' was a piece of meat you had on Sundays and `pot'was something you cooked in. 'Rock music was Grandmothers lullaby, Eldaorado' was an ice cream, a 'gay person' as the life and soul of the party and nothing more, while `aids Just meant beauty treatment, wooden legs, or help for someone in trouble. we who were born a long time ago must be a hardy bunch when you think of the way in which the world has changed and the adiustments we have had to make. No wonder we are so confussed
and there is a generation gap today
BUT BY THE GRACE OF GOD WE HAVE SURVIVED'

Great post. One of the unchanging facts of the world is that it never stays still, ever, no matter how hard people try to make it stand still. I can tell you even though I'm only 34, the world of 2006 is very different place from the Birmingham of the 1970's where I grew up as a little lad. Some good, some bad, but overall just different.

growth and progress eh.... Yep I have watched this city of mine for 40+ years go from a little hick town like place to a rather big player on the interntional scene. We just hit 1 million this summer and wow what a ride it has been.

Yes, life is like swimming, you can't keep just treading water or eventually you will get tired and drown, you've got to try and make it to the other side. Of course once you get there, you have to swim back again. There's no point in protesting, its the way of things.
