It takes a sexually deviant mind to notice that there are 69 days until Christmas :sneaky:

Oh, I was talking about me :D

Christmas...

All those songs...Silent night, tannenbaum, Adeste Fidelis..jingle bells...

remind me the pure Christmas atmosphere, a mix of love, peace, snow and happiness, Christmas trees and presepe... holydays, and a lot of time for your dearest and yourself..

That was the Christmas of my childhood.

I tried to keep this charming feeling for my sons, as well, at least until they were little, when they still believed that Infant Jesus and Santa Claus gave them gifts ... but still I loved it.

Now it becomes such a business deal: buy this, buy that, gift for everybody.. olè! mountains and mountains of stupid, embarrassing and expensive gifts - oh so nice thanks  - all around and forgotten just two hours later..

Hi Accadue. I love those songs too. We still try and keep Christmas simple here. It's very hot of course in December in Australia. A lot of people go to the beach and have a picnic. I still cook turkey though. Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, and we look at all the lights. Don't think I'll ever be anything but a kid when I see the trees decorated. A family time.

Hi, AussiePam! nice to hear you again!

It is so strange: I can't figure a hot Christmas!

In the years 2005 and 2004 we have snow, just during those days and one Christmas, just during lunch time. We were about 14-15 people (as usual) and we all went outside to see the snow falling in wide flakes.

It was simply beautiful.

For lunch, we generally have white wine as a drink to toast, entrées (oers d'oevre) a lot of them..

Then lasagne (of course) 2 kinds: with meat plus white sauce, and with spinach and cheese and white sauce.

Then roast meat, roasted goose, and vegetables.

Then panettone, caffè, limoncello and at least 2-3 hours of nap...

I have had a couple of white Christmases. Very nice. And a really different flavour from the hot Aussie style celebration. But this is nice too. We have carols about hot wind tossing the leaves, and the grass in the paddocks being brown.. and the three shepherds have become three drovers here (sheep herders on horseback).

I do a traditional English Christmas dinner which we eat in the late afternoon, when it's a bit cooler. Very hot cooking all that. We have turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce and little brussels sprouts and baked potatoes. And a good Aussie red wine. And after, if anyone has any room left, there is Christmas pudding with brandy custard and then nuts in their shells. I've put on 5 kilos just thinking about it. Grin.

Limoncello is awesome. My grandma once cooked roast goose at Christmas. You can get it here but it's unusual. I can buy panettone in my local continental deli.

Straight question here, Nomad - no wind-up. Everybody knows what Christmas is all about, but what do Americans give thanks for on Thanksgiving Day? It's not a wind-up: I honestly don't know.

Well in my house we like to go around the table taking turns voicing our thanks. Its nice, it could be anything you wish from a days breathe to thanking God for a chance to be together or even a new puppy.

I have always thought Thanksgiving was a top notch celebration, borrowed it yonks ago and now celebrate it here in Australia every year in solidarity with my American friends and family. Last year I actually managed to cook the whole shebang for a hungry crowd in deepest Illinois - and we got loads of early snow. AWESOME !!!

Halloween's not an aussie fest either, but inspired by this Forum, I dug out a few scary orange and black bits and pieces yesterday and festooned me front room and porch. The local ToysRUs store is doing a fine trade in vampire blood and dog turd candy. Bring on the witches!!!

WOE BETIDE THEE, HEATHAN! THOU CONDEMNIST THYSELF! HATH THOU NOT READ THE HOLY SCRIPTURES??

EXODUS, CHAPTER 22, VERSE 18 CLEARLY STATES: "THOU SHALT NOT SUFFER A WITCH TO LIVE!" Look it up if you don't believe me. That one verse led to the mindless persecution and murder of tens of thousands of innocent women during the middle ages. I already have my bucket of cold (blessed, of course) water to pour over any young infidel daring to disturb my evening with this trick or treat nonsense.:D We never used to be pestered with it, but everything America does, we follow second
