Private messaging

When you are Private Messaging here, do you always ask for a "read receipt"? This sounds pointless, but I'm curious...I don't use it often, but some of you do. Others use it every time, some of you use it once in a while, but not always. Do you use it when you don't expect a reply and just want to know the person you have sent the message to has received it? If you are having several exchanges it's obvious that the receiver has read it when they reply. So, in my roundabout way of asking, when I get a "read receipt requested" I assume that there is no reply required. Am I assuming correctly, or is there no "standard" for using this option?

If it's just a comment or something, I don't ask for a receipt. If it is something important to me, I ask for one.

When I first started private messaging I hit 'okay' instead of 'cancel' thinking I would cancel my message if I didn't hit okay. Then I got messages that didn't require receipt and realized it was 'okay' to hit 'cancel'. Hope that makes sense. :D

Yes I ask for one as a habit carryover from work, where I needed receipts for all emails as a business practice. :guitarist
