for those who celebrate Easter, what are your favorite cultural or family traditions? Dressing up? an Easter bonnet? recipes? sunrise services? chocolate bunnies and baskets? egg decorating? or egg hunts? share your thoughts and ideas for a HAPPY EASTER!

I grew up as a Catholic child in Chicago. So the forty days before Easter, Lent, we had to give up something and, ofcourse, not eat meat on Fridays. As a child, we usually gave up eating candy.

So on Easter, the Easter basket filled with candy and bright colored eggs was sure appreciated. We also got to wear a bonnet, new shoes, and a pretty dress to church to celebrate Easter in a church decorated with beautiful lilies which hinted at the coming of the warm spring weather. After that, we usually had a large family gathering and on the menu was a large delicious ham and, ofcourse, potato salad.

I enjoy the memory.

One of my favorite traditions was getting a "Bumpy Jumpy" but

apparently they aren't made any more! My family used to always

give them to me, even into adulthood!!

I don't have any kids, so Easter doesn't quite have the impact it

would for other people.

I do have a bunch of close to 40 year old Easter eggs in a big

crystal bowl on my dining room table, made by my husband and

his brothers when they were little. My mom-in-law gave them to

me and I cherish them.

Quick reminder for folks: Please don't give your kids any bunnies

or chicks or ducklings (live animals) for Easter.

It's always been somewhat traditional that we have a Bar-b-q on Easter with the main course being Bar-B-Qed BUNNY.

Lon, you are a riot!!! I love rabbit!! Maybe I'll incorporate your tradition this year!

We usually all gather at my mom and step-dad's house for Easter and eat till we're blue. Not this year though. They will still be in Florida, so Matt and I are on our own. (Wonder where I can buy some rabbit??)

LON HOW COULD YOU EAT THE EASTER BUNNY...

Being a Catholic we always went to EASTER sunrise services. Then we would go home have the best darn EASTER EGG HUNT ON THE WEST COAST.. My mom and dad would go to any lenght to hide the eggs.. they even had a map of where they were. Some years we would spend the majority of the day trying to find them.. Some had money in them.. so the drive to find them before dark was great..

Now my younger sister has EASTER at here house. She has an enormous house, and yard. All the neighborhood kids come over. There are 4 house that participate in the hunt. The egg are hidden at all four houses. After church everyone comes over for breakfast. We line the kids up.. ALL IN THERE EASTER SUNDAY CLOTHES.. JUST CUTE AS CAN BE..AND THE HUNT BEGINS.. THE KIDS JUST LIVE FOR THIS HUNT EVERY YEAR..

Then in the early evening we have EASTER DINNER.. :-6 THIS IS MY FAMILY LAST EASTER..!!MY DAUGHTER, MY NIECE RACHEL & ANNA, GRANDDAUGHTER NIKKI.

I never do too much at Easter except hiding little chocolate eggs around the house for Enya. This is the first year she knows the Easter Bunny isn't real. Maybe I should make a bigger deal. I'll dress up as the Bunny and hop around the neighbourhood with a little basket. Either that or learn how to levitate and dress up as Christ. (I know, poor taste)

I always ate the head of my chocolate Easter Bunny first, then wondered if that was sick. I never liked the eyeballs though, so I just plucked it off.

Well we usaully go to the relatives who are having the dinner. But this year because there is a crises in the family. I don't think that is going to be possible. :-1

An Easter tradition I used to do with my children was put an Easter Egg in their shoes which they found when they woke up on Easter morning.
