Thanks, friends! Keep you eye on the news from Jordan...if you see that terrorists have taken some middle-aged Americans as hostages, please pool your pennies for ransom money, ok? :wah:

ABSOLUTELY!!
Who will join our PRS (Potential Rescue Squad)? :guitarist
I've always wanted to see Petra and had planned on seeing it when we were in Egypt, but that didn't work. I'd given up hope, considering the world situation. But this trip literally fell into my lap (I'm replacing a last-minute cancellation) and it's almost free! I'm cynical enough to think it'll never be any safer in Jordan than it is today. And I'm optimistic enough to believe we'll be just fine! (The trip is through USC and it's a very small group. We'll have our own escort, transportation and local guides to take us through the ruins, down to Aqaba, the Red Sea and some other sites.)
The way I see it, there're some new friends in Jordan, right now--we just haven't met them yet. I've traveled in five or six Muslim countries and have always been treated well. I expect this'll be just as safe and just as enjoyable.

I think it's as safe as any place in the world at the moment, the hotels provide security guards and tour guides, and it is supposed to be a truly magical place. The only thing you have to worry about is getting the squits, everyone i know thats been there has got a really dodgy tum, just make sure you take some tablets Lulu

They travel all over, since being in remission from cancer they have about 5-6 holidays a year. They are staying at the Sheraton hotel in Jordan, but tommorrow they are going to Cairo, my mums does all the tourist bits, she loves all the history.

Me, too! Egypt is a fascinating place and I enjoyed the people and the food as much as the history. They also make a good beer called "STELLA." You wouldn't necessarily expect that in a Muslim country....but it's true.
