Mail order brides

Post by SuzyB »

What are your view folks, i know a couple of people that have married thai girls(so they say:wah: ), they are pleased as punch as they do everything for the guys, it is like going back in time where women do everything for the man! But are they truely happy? They come to a country and don't speak the lanuage, have very few friends, are treated like slaves and have no social life outside the home.

I guess for these guys in their late 50's-60's it's the only way they're going to get a 20 year old.

What do you think

Thai Women could be happy due to the fact they don't know any better. They're grateful and happy to be in America at any cost.

If they obtain a social life and are introduced to the ways of a "American Woman",

slaving over that man thing would more than likely change. And their men/husbands don't want them to have a social life, that's why the men ordered from a catalgue. Win - Win situation

Mail Order Brides are from everywhere - Russia etc..

How do they fit them in the envelopes?

Suzy, really good topic! :)

I have mixed feelings. I figure both parties are getting something they want, so if one is being used, the other probably is as well.

I'm sure it's also possible that men have a preference for women of a certain country for many reasons other than looking for a handmaid. (no puns please!) It would be similar to an arranged marriage. I hear you can learn to love your spouse...sometimes.

In the Old West, here in the States, it was not uncommon for mining men to take a mail order bride from another state even! She wanted a rich husband and he had the gold.

My Japanese-American friend says in Japan it's called "picture brides" as at the airport, you can see all these people walking around with photos, trying to find the matching face.

Yep i think the guys are happy .There can't be many women around in this day and age that would still bow down the master of the house . Personally i dont have much repsect for these guys - its not love .The woman wants a better life and security the guy wants a sex with a woman who won't say no . If you want companionship buy a dog not a human being .:-5

Arranged marriages have been a feature of many cultures historically and indeed today and seem to work. I saw a documentary on arranged marriages where the wife said she grew to love her husband. I suppose the argument could be made that a marriage that starts from a romantic liaison can degenerate to the point where the couple hates each other so that's not a surefire formula.

Okay if I haven't upset every single person reading the thread I have to say, to each their own when it comes to relationships.

 What have you said that would be upsetting?

I think much of this may depend on what marriage means to a person. For some it's more business contract than it is romance. Some get married for companionship and security rather than because they are in love.

I too have read that stuff about chivalry and the medieval era creating the concept of romance. I'm not sure I go for it though. Creating chivalry, perhaps but I think romantic love has been around much longer.
