Period 4 Class

Post by chonsigirl »

My students were very good today, I was very proud of them. I had a special ed student last year in 7th, he is now in 8th. I call him Davey. A lovely young student, who always smiles and says nice things. He comes by my class everyday to say hi before lunch, and all my sixth graders know him and say hi to him too.

Well, my door was open at his lunchtime, and I was teaching my class and blabbing away like usual. The kid in the corner seat started yelling out, " Dr. B, Dr. B, they are beating up Davey!" I turned around, and saw a big bully punching on Davey, and I ran out of the classroom and pulled Davey in. We sat him down, pulled the ice pack out of my little 'fridge, and put it on his poor face. My 6th graders all went and locked the doors for me and called down for the school cop to come down and get the bully. When Davey was settled down, I picked two of my big students to walk him down to the nurse to get proper attention. He will have a horrible black eye at the very least.

Even the young ones know right from wrong, and not to pick on those who are special. My students watched out for Davey, and will keep an eye on him in the future. They were quick thinking, and very helpful in saving Davey from getting beat up worse today.

Why must bullies pick on those who are different, but do no harm to others?:(

Good news from a bad situation. I think probably this memory will stick with the kids, especially the two big ones you picked to escort Davey. I think they'll see themselves as protectors rather than bullies.

You've got some good kids, Dr. B. :-6
