kesann, if this is true of you, I applaud you. But this is plainly not true of most Americans. People believe what they see on T.V. Our news sources have become more polarized and biased than ever before. Americans make a lot of faulty assumptions we design to protect our self-esteem and nationalism. We think we are always right and never wrong- we don't even know everything our country is doing to other countries, and if we ever hear anything negative, it is hushed down or called a "conspiracy theory." This may sound like an exaggeration to you, but I have heard that America is slowly becoming like the Soviet Union was at the height of communism, where the media is controlled, and people are afraid to think anything unflattering or unpatriotic. I lived in Africa for seven and a half years. Try living in another part of the world for awhile. You can't see the picture while you are in the frame. Americans live in an illusion that we are well-informed, but the fact is that everything we expose ourselves to is designed to protect our national self-image.
I wish what you are saying here were true- and I think it is for some few Americans, but I believe that the majority of Americans are self-deceived. I'm not saying we're bad people. I'm just saying we accept biased information too easily, and congratulate ourselves as if we're informed when we're really not.

American government and people remember one sad day in the history of their country when terrorists had struck. But India and its people have even forgotten to count such sad days as every other day terrorists srike at some place or the other.
Also US government does not seem to have learnt any lessons from 9/11 sad day. India's neighbour, the epi-center of terrorism is considered a partner by US government in their fight against terrorism.

However, it was also a wake-up call for Americans. The United States had been "terror-free" until this happened. Many other nations have been living with the reality of terrorism for many years.
The events that day have helped Americans become part of the world, and much less insular and isolated from other nations on this small planet of ours. All of us have had to open our eyes, view the world through different lenses, and learn about other people, their religions and their cultures.
I am surprised that Americans want other nations also to feel that 9/11 was a sad day, when they had never bothered about terrorist strikes in other countries especially India. Even after this sad experience US government is hobnobbing with Pakistan the manufacturing machine of terror. Americans have missed this wake-up call. They still want other nations to join them in their grief but do not feel the grief of people in other terror affected nations. These double standards are responsible for what Americans are feeling about 9/11.

Unfortunately the thing that most people around the world go by is what they see of the American government. Sadly that is not a very accurate representation of the actual american people.
I am sorry if I have hurt you. I never meant to blame all Americans. In every country there are good people and no-that-good or bad people. Some thing happens in Gujrat in India and entire Hindu race is blamed. Few people take an extremist stand and Hindu religion is condemned. It is really unfortunate that most people around the world go by what they see of the gevernment in any country. But you are right it may not be an accurate representation of its entire people.
India is asked by US government to send its troops to Iraq. But when we are sruck by terrorists from across the border US Government grant more favours to Pakistan. We are hurt. Every Indian has felt the agony of 9/11 as we have been feeling it ourselves for many years. I am happy that there are Americans who also feel sad when innocent lives are lost in terrorist attacks in India.

Terrorism by any group for any cause is a crime against humanity. To williingly take the life of innocent people simply because they do not share the same belief, lifestyle ..etc. is not the action of a sane person or persons. Until fundamentalism in any form is overcome this is a war without end. Okay.. nuff of a rant..

Life is a gift of God. Every person is a living image of God. To take away a life is a sin against God. Those who can not give life have no right to take it away. What may be the cause it can never justify killing of human beings.
What a nice signature - Practice Tolerance, It's painless..

Thank you .. though I do admit that practicing it can sometimes be painful. But back to the thread at hand. I guess that the strongest memory I have of that time period was a comment from my daughter. She was 14 at the time and we were discussing what had happened.. the reactions etc... and she made a statement that was so obvious... you cannot condemn the general population for the actions of a few. That made me stop and think .. such an amazing observation. Perhaps if we allowed the younger generation a chance things might be different..
