Thanks, Glitter (not the kind mama makes)! I have thick skin. I will recover from this. Everything about me has been attacked. My site, my time, my style, my judgement, my nut, everything. But it was worth it because in the end ... we might have saved that one word-game-thread-lover who might have been too hurt to talk...

I don't assume .... I posted what I posted because I received a couple PM's about how some folks felt about 2 x 4's style, this matched some of how I felt.

Pretty simple.

I'm actually glad that some FG members responded in defence of word games and the people that play them. We all get offended at different times by different things on FG...that's been proven in recent months. Whatever the issue, if people feel offended, then that's how it is...it isn't less important in this case because it happens to be word games and it certainly doesn't make anyone a pollyanna, or require them to lighten up.

Well since someone might get offended at anything, where do we draw the line? Would it have been OK if I made a thread called "Who else can't stand really long threads that take too long to read?"

What would you say then if "long-thread-lovers" were "hurt" or "offended?"

I can't wait for your answer!

If l-t-ls were hurt or offended, then I would say that that's their right...and why not? The point I'm making is that no-one has the right to minimise what someone else might be offended by.

Maybe no lines have to be drawn but people have to expect that others might react strongly to topics that are close to their heart and are being made fun of.

But some things people should still be allowed to express even though some may find it objectionable. Most of the posts in this thread would be disallowed if THAT were the critreia. There will always be someone who is offended by something. I am not saying their reaction should not be important to them or that they don't have a right to their feelings, I am saying that asking who else doesn't like word-game threads does not cross some bad line unless you want everyone to act medicated and so PC you've created a lolipop fake boring environment that people can't even bust chops in. That's disgusting! That's nuts! Even with one nut I know that is nuts! We aren't talking about nasty personal attacks or anything like that, let's be realistic here!

OK, I just got done running the numbers.

AT ME: 34 personal attacks ranging from name-calling to website insults.

BY ME: asked if anyone else doesn't like word-game threads.

I was very hurt, offended, and my one nut felt crushed. My emotions were all damaged or whatever. Since offending and hurting seems to be the big concern that called the PC police to arms, scantily-clad apology babe pics via PM will be accepted by me for the next 48 hours.

Minks, I know what you're thinking. 24Hours MIGHT be hurt and offended at the personal attacks on him and his site, and those who were crass and didn't think twice need a good scolding from you. I just ask that you remember Jesus and have mercy when you dish out the justice.

If you don't like them then don't open them and shut up about it and don't ruin it for those folks who might like them but don't know yet.

Word games - politics - or winy anal crap.

I've been working and missed a lot of very surprising posts and I'm not going back to read them all now. I thought this was a lighthearted thread, a bit of a romp. I think I've posted in most areas here including word games, politics, religion, serious discussion, personal issules threads, funny threads and no doubt a lot in the winy anal crap threads, and mostly enjoyed them. Sometimes where you post depends on your mood, or who's in there to be with. I come here to relax and have fun, sometimes to learn stuff, and mostly just to be with people I like to be with, chatting a bit, unwinding. I like humour. Anyway, I think I might take my next work break down the local cafe, with my sudoku book.

Hi, nice to meet you - EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T FIT IN WITH THE FG STYLE that I was advised to conform to. The FG style doesn't allow for crass "shut ups" and I think you just got yourself into one helluva bind with the others who are going to step up to the plate here and defend all of those who might be offended or hurt about your politics comment. Many of your victims won't speak up for themselves and so now you are going to have to catch the wrath and fury of those who will defend the right of people who are into "winy anal crap" and who "can't do word games."

That last part - the blatant discrimination against those who aren't good at word games, is the part I think Valerie, Minks, and others are going to be most upset over.

Good luck with that all - I would NOT want to be in your shoes.

And listen, don't let it matter that me asking who else doesn't like word games couldn't possibly "ruin it" for those who do like them - you stick to your guns when the fury comes to your doorstep.

Well, your focus on my site and the comments you made make me think you are experienced with sites and considering where we are, forums sites in particular. I don't know, I thought maybe you had some SQL experience, or if you had been doing it a long time, could pass along any tips .. there are always those little gems we all pick up along the way, knowledge gems, if you know what I mean. You sound like you might have some.

You're one of those really smart but frustrated types, I can tell. I'm skilled at this, and I'm not that different. I don't think we got off on the right foot and I don't think you meant what you said to me. Lady cop picks better friends than that, don't you think? She happens to love me
