Tornados
Tornados
When I went to bed last night it had started to rain. The weather said that today was going to be stormy with lots of thunderstorms. I got up this morning and it was still raining but a little harder.
I was in the kitchen making tea when I heard the tornado sirens going off. Now, you have to understand that they go off if it looks like the weather will produce a tornado and it could be anywhere in my county. With that, I wasn't upset but I went to the TV to see where it was. I live on the eastern side of town and tornados normally run from the west to southwest of the city and then to the eastern side which is south east of my neighborhood. Or they run from the west to the northwest along the river which is northwest of me. Confused yet? In other words, they usually miss me.
As I watched the radar, just as I thought, it was on the west side and would run south of the city and make its way south of me before it would turn northeast. The lightening and thunder was bad and it, once again, was so bad it made my phone ring several times. It got dark and loud. Not worried until I continued watching the tube.
A tornado hit on the west side of the town and hit the parsonage of a church which was full of people. Luckily, they heard the rumble and ran to the main church just as the parsonage was flipped and ruined. This community is about 10 miles from me as the crow (or tornado) flies.
Later I learned that it hit a popular kids place about a mile from me (as the crow flies) and demolished it. Luckily, again, no one was in the entertainment center of the place but all the kids were in the day care side that was not hit. The entertainment part is pure rubble and twisted metal. But the day care end was OK with minor damage. Totally amazing considering it is all one building! It damaged the main Post Office near there and some other home in the ultra rich section over there, but no one was killed. Thank heavens. They are still showing pictures of my side of town with horrible damage.
I had heard a loud noise as I was watching the coverage but assumed it was the rain coming down in sheets. I think it was the tornado zipping across the sky above me. But too far away to be recognized as a tornado.
I thank my lucky stars that my home and I was spared but I was more thankful that I was not at work today. For several reasons.
The Funzone (the kids entertainment center) sat in the middle of two small strip malls and a KFC and although they received minor damage they were not destroyed like the Funzone was.
Tornados amaze and scare me. I think most of the really bad weather is gone. It should rain most of the night but I don't think it will be bad anymore. I hate it when they come at night! Mine wasn't the only county to recieve damage. About five other counties had touchdowns.
Today was supposed to be a relaxing day so I could catch up on some much needed rest. DUH! :-5

When choosing between two evils, I always like to take the one I've never tried before.

Sorry 911, they've been talking about the severe weather in your area of the country all morning. Looks like you guys had a real scary ride last night and this morning. I'm glad you came out of it safe. Looks like parts of Florida and Georgia are in line to be hit next.

While in Hawaii Oct. 30th,'06 - rainy for the first couple of days, then the news announced possible Tornado, and if the Tornado warning is sounded - you have 4 minutes to find cover. 4 minutes - Tornado in Hawaii ALOHA..
Tornado never appeared and it was for the 30th & 31st of Oct. - sunny weather after that..

We thought of that !! We also had to figure out where we'd go if anything happened. Then I figured out how I'd get out if there was a fire and - and - and..
All I wanted was a relaxing vacation and that it was. Alot of fun

We must live near each other cause both north and south of me they had some major weather. We had a lot of heavy rain and are still blown away with the wind, but no tornadoes. Apparently one was killed in the southeastern parishes though!
