I was banned from subbing for a month

Post by nvalleyvee »

I thought they were going to ban me for the entire year. I was subbing a 4th grade class.......I was called in after the day had started.......there was not enough work for the kids................they were picking on each other and trying to slide the entire day. About 30 minutes before the day ended I had to send one to the principal and then hell broke loose................MY FAULT. The loss of control was always my fault. I was walking away from the kids and said under my breath "bitch, bitch, bitch" instead of a loud WAA, WAA, WAA. These kids just want to tattle all the time and I had it......again my fault for losing control. Well one of the kids heard me and I got reported for cussing in front of 4th graders. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!.....I got called in for tomorrow.......I am a good sub.......I love the 3rd to 5th graders. They just gave me a 6 week period of thinking about my words..............I knew I was wrong when I said them.

Sounds like the problem is more to do with bad management. It was up to them to make sure there was enough work not you. If you take a kid out and send it to the next level to be dealt with you are taking corrective action not failing and they should back you up. Sounds like the kids know that if they cause a ruckus they will get away with it. They are also encouraging a culture where kids get away with going behind teachers back to cause trouble. What they should be doing is helping you deal with discipline problems and make it clear you have the authority of the school behind you to deal with disruptive pupils not ganging up on you. The kids now know they got you banned so you are now a target.

I'm not a teacher though.

Obviously. :wah:

NV,

Are you going to talk to the teacher you subbed about providing more work for the kids?

That is a very valid point, AC. Teacher's are required to have so many days worth of lesson plans in reserve, for emergencies when they are out. Also to be safe, make yourself an emergency lesson plan to take with you-for those thoughtless teachers who are not prepared.
