Ok so how many men here had the guts to attend the birth of their children . If you did.... how did you feel ..... was it some thing that you wanted to do or did you feel pressured

I got a pic at my sons birth when his head crowned and then the battery went flat :rolleyes: . I was better prepared with my daughter. In my mind I had imagined cutting the umbilical cord would be like cutting through a rubber tube, but in reality, it was like cutting a pork chop with blunt scissors. I wouldn't have missed it.

My son was delivered by emergency cesarian under general so my ex wasn't allowed to be there.

My daughter was a natural childbirth, my ex wouldn't look, didn't want to cut the cord and did nothing but moan about the nailmarks I left in his arm, he very stupidly kept pointing it out to me afterwards and recieved a tongue lashing.

Luckily I'd had the foresight that he would be a waste of space so I asked my sister to be there too.





Lovely picture there Kram, photos were taken after the birth when we were all cleaned up, my ex couldn't look when all the yucky stuff was going on let alone take a photo! :rolleyes: Both my children were born with a head full of dark hair.

I think it's only right to be there to greet the people you're going to devote your life to. My ex was one of those "modern Moms" too. She wanted to be at the birth as well

my last son was 11 pounds...(that's why he was the LAST!)....his father was there throughout and i called him every name in the book! :wah:

I don't have anything to contribute since I don't have any children, but it's great to read about all of your wonderful (and not so wonderful :rolleyes: ) experiences

My hubby is a bit of a wimp when it comes to alive peoples blood and gore (he can cope with all sorts of dead peoples stuff - undertaker)



He was present at the birth of all three of his daughter's - I was only there for the last one!!:wah:



His first daughter he coped fine with, the second was born on a very hot day and he fainted - the midwife made him stay on the floor and passed baby down to him before his first wife got a cuddle!



Our daughter was 5 weeks early and was getting in distress when she was born, I had been in hospital for a few days before she arrived and when he came in the midwife had a peek and whisked me off to a delivery room. They kindly gave him a sandwich because he had eaten nothing all day but then took a look and said 'oh there's baby's head' - hubby nearly choked on his sandwich!!



He didn't pass out this time - he went with her to special care and then came back to tell me what was happening. He says he wouldn't have missed any of the births for anything



And our little dot of 4lbs 8ozs is 12 soon!

Now a days, it is just about a given that the father will be present for the birth. It is also a given that women will have a "natural" childbirth, unless.............

My hubby was there for the birth of both our daughters. Both were born "natural".

For the first daughter I was so exceedingly relaxed the nurses could not believe this was my first baby (I just didn't want to miss anything cause it could have been my only child.............). I could have gone home right after giving birth -- I felt that good...........

Second baby came 11 months later and quickly -- from the first ping of pain to the birth -- 2 hours 10 minutes. Again, I felt fantastic.

Hubby gave both girls their first kiss and first fine jewelery. He is close to both girls to this day.

From start to the beginning of their lives, hubby was there and is there now -- as it should be................

I had all four of mine natural. no husband present. i delivered within forty five minutes of getting to the hospital everytime. last one about four minutes into the er. my very best friend, who happens ot be a labor and delivery nurse got the high honor of delivery the last three. :-6 My second one was face up too. my doctor made the mistake of telling me i couldn't have him on my own. made me a time to show up at the hospital to have a c-section.(i just didn't show up) two weeks later i had him on my own. ....... Checked out four hours later with the baby and went back to college. i was a determined woman. This kid has two honorary certificates from two biology classes he attended . and mom passed.

I didn't get to experience normal labor, as my son was breech. They checked me in to attempt an external version, but unfortunately it didn't work and my BP was dropping, so they had to do a section. I kinda felt cheated to not have experienced labor, but my sister (who was in the OR with me) tells me I'm stupid. :rolleyes: Still though, a section ain't easy either. That recovery is awful!

My wife had all three boys by c-section. On the first two It was not even considered that I attend. By the third which was seven years after the second, It was pretty much assumed I would attend. I didnt have any problems watching the c section. I thought it was pretty cool actually. Told the doc it wasnt any different than gutting a deer.
