voice recognition software for PC

Post by abortretryfail »

I’m looking for voice recognition software for my new PC, anyone know what I should get? I heard that Dragon Naturally Speaking ( http://www.nuance.com/naturallyspeaking/ ) is the best, true? Anyone used the latest version (9.0)? Does it work well? Any tips?

I have TalkIt/TypeIt. I've never used it because I couldn't be bothered to take the time to teach it how to understand my words. I asked it to do something and whatever it did, I just uninstalled it for when I have mega time.

I used version 8 while I needed it and yes, it's wonderful. The Professional version lets you control the computer as well, the normal lets you dictate.

What sort of PC do you have? I did think that on anything much under a 2GHz machine or less than 512MB RAM it might get a bit sticky with other programs running, but that's just an opinion.

Oh cool. I know that v. 9 lets you dictate via bluetooth and works on the Palm, which I've been interested in trying. Just got a new PC (yeah, I think that 9.0 requires you have those specs flat out) so that's not a problem. Did you need to train v. 8.0? How long did it take? 9.0 says no training necessary, but that it will improve the recognition if you do. I think I'll order this today.

It'll run from the box without, but it does improve recognition to the point where gross speech defects can be bypassed as irrelevant.

I used it to dictate http://www.forumgarden.com/forums/showp ... stcount=20 if you want an example, it was far quicker than my typing. I did proof it but there wasn't much wrong once I got the place and personal names recognised.

I got it over the weekend. Pretty nifty - it did indeed recognize me right away. I didn't train it, but I think it's getting better just from use.
