Phanton driver

Post by weinbeck »

Apart from being a notorious suicide spot, Beachy Head in East Sussex, U.K. is associated with druids and the occult. On a freezing November night with a bitterly cold fog, a lone walker was trying to make his way back to Eastbourne. Few vehicles passed, and those that did were going too fast anyway. He'd been walking for about forty minutes when suddenly a car pulled up silently alongside. Ever so grateful he jumped into the back. The inside of the car was quite dark and he thanked the driver for stopping. Getting no response he leaned forward, and felt the blood drain from his face as he realised there was no driver. Paralysed in fear, he sat frozen to the seat. Feeling for the doorlatch, he prayed with all his might for deliverence. Suddenly a hand thrust through the driver's window, and grabbed the wheel. Unable to take any more and screaming in terror, he leapt from the door and ran the remaining quarter mile into the nearest village. Trembling like a leaf, he ordered a couple of large brandies for himself before telling the barman his increadible story. Much to his surprise, all listened. Nobody laughed. The barman confirmed that strange thing used to happen on the South Downs at night. As he was helping himself to a third drink, another couple entered the pub.

"You!" said the man. "What are you - some kind of nut?" He asked contemptuously. Shaking his head, he turned to the barman.

"My car's broken down, and this p**t expects a b***dy lift off me!":wah:
