I'm sure that if you manage to get through your first hundred posts without using the word "finance" again you'll settle in wonderfully, MG. Welcome to the site.

let me ask you a question, is there a law stopping me creating my own currency?

I'm not talking about counterfeiting, I'm talking about my own currency....

lets say i opened my own chain of stores, could i not be allowed to only except my own money that i created? i'm sure this is a loop hole, any idea?

wow, now thats thinking outsite of the box, that I am not 100% sure about, but no you cant do that for all items in your store.. You could come up with a "disney dollar" for example that could be used in your store.. (Like an incentive program for dollars spent in your store, that your customers could use for products... But trying to establish your own currency 100%, that I don't think you can do

Great question, I am going to ask some of my co-workers as well, if I come up with a different answer, I will let you know!

Have a great day,

Jon

B.C. island issues own currency: Cash Corner

By Kim Lunman.

Thursday, February 13, 2003

A British Columbia island known for its laid-back lifestyle and eclectic community of artisans is giving the Canadian government a run for its money — literally.

Saltspring Island is printing its own paper currency in an attempt to raise money for environmentally friendly buses on the idyllic Gulf Island of 10,000 residents.

About $500,000 in Saltspring Island money has been printed. The $1, $2, $5, $10, $20 and $100 bills feature local artists’ rendering of island scenery and historical figures.

The design on the $100 bill is the donated work of famous resident and wildlife painter Robert Bateman.

The money is being accepted at par at the community’s banks, Canada Post and by most of the island’s merchants. An ATM is being set up to dispense the Saltspring currency.

“People have really jumped on board, said Barry Kazakoff, owner of the Oystercatcher Seafood Bar and Grill, who accepts Saltspring currency along with Canadian and U.S. bills.

“If there’s going to be a second sovereign country in Canada, it’s going to be Saltspring, he said. “The tourists love it. It’s really part of Saltspring. You can buy groceries with it, you can buy diapers, you can buy art or beer at the pub with it.

Welcome to the garden, MG.:)
The poolhall's a great equalizer. In the poolhall, nobody cares how old you are, how young you are, what color your skin is or how much money you've got in your pocket... It's about how you move. I remember this kid once who could move around a pool table like nobody had ever seen. Hour after hour, rack after rack, his shots just went in. The cue was part of his arm and the balls had eyes. And the thing that made him so good was... He thought he could never miss. I know, 'cause that kid was me.

Hi Jon, I like money..... work awfully hard to make it.. never have been able to accumulate any. I could use about 60,000.00 to pull me out of my present hole. The label " Financial advisor " actually frightens me. Only kidding. Have a good time.

Hi and welcome.

Our financial advisers have all been rather eccentric - do you qualify?

I used to work in a bank so I can count money quite quickly - spend it faster though:thinking:

I just thought I'd tell a little about myself. thanks for the intro...

Just because I know how to advice others how to spend their money, dosen't mean I have much of my own... If I had some of my clients money, I'd throw mine away and start over! LOL LOL

Thanks.

If the general consensus is that love and family are the primary sources of happiness for most of us, why do so many dedicate their lives pursuing the $ ?

Thank you, sanctimonious Nomad
