Ministers Act to Wean Scotland off £55m-a-year Antidepressant Habit

Post by RedGlitter »

"People with mild depression were given pills instead of being told that depression is part of the spectrum of feelings in life" or some such rubbish. I quote very loosely. (Pasting freezes my screen) Sounds like they equate depression with having a bad day. This article is bothersome to me because after the hell I've lived in most of my life, I am one to believe if the pills work, use them. Nobody gripes if you take pills for a heart condition or other illness so why the big hoopla over mental health? Cognitive therapy may help in conjunction with Rx but expecting people to rely on that or other "alternative therapies" is unfair I think. What this article shows me is that there is still stigma around people with depression. We should all just "snap out of it" and carry on. Would that it worked that way.

If you had the scottish executive to put up with you would be depressed as well. Every time i'm in a good mood I just have a look at the scottish parliament building and feel that sense of despair coming back. As they say in the free kirk of Scotland "You're not put on earth to be happy." smile and the devil gets in.:yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl

Well...I'm not familiar with the Scottish Parliament but...we have George Bush. Is he comparable? (Not to be confused with competent) ;)

Both of them remind me of those sad characters you occasionaly see by the side of the road at traffic lights directing the traffic, carefully waiting until the lights change before waving people on. They suffer from the same delusion.

a) That they are on control of events.

b) They understand what is happening in the world around them.

The only difference is ignore them as you would unfortunately you cannot do so.

Also unfortunately they are the same in that they are off their trollies and shoukldn't be allowed out on their own..
