Culture Shock

Had a bit of a culture shock moment today.

Trying to figure a trip somewhere and I lost it

I don't get how all the train systems are interconnected and none of the roads are straight.

I come from a world based on grids. There is one town here that is grid based and everyone hates it.

I got mad.

I feel better now.

so far it's mostly the roads and the food.

and towns that only have one notary who are unavailable for a week.

otherwise, there are a lot of things I like better.

Let me know if you ever get over the culture shock, koan. I still have never got over mine, going from West to East. I have adjusted to somethings, and some I just found out I never will.

I learned to carry lots of maps anywhere I go....................................:wah:

Other than that, you can print directions from multimap or route planner.

It's the part about getting somewhere without a car that caused the problem. Trying to figure out which trains to take, where to buy the tickets from and how to make sure it doesn't cost me £100 just to get to the airport and back.

I always end up on the wrong train whenever I have to use the underground, but that's probably because I can never tell which one is going in which direction!:-3

I find the underground one of the great parts of the journey. I little scary at first but it's like a whole city underground. The myriad levels and corridors. Fascinating.

Not great if you're in a hurry though.

If you didn't see the sunrise, you can estimate with a quick sum. Except the bit about the neutrino detector, I remembered that from a newspaper - they have to be operated at the bottom of deep worked-out mineshafts which lessens their practical application except on the Northern Line.

I get my train tickets online, you put in your departure point, destination, time date, single, return, all that stuff. It then gives me options that fit my travel plans, including connections. If my journeys a few days away, they post my tickets, if it's next day, you get a ref number to give at the ticket window, and they just print out your ticket(s). I'm in the Midlands and use Central trains website, you'll have to check your local operator.
