here, here! Everybody has days when they think the sky is falling and they shouldn't be torn apart for voicing what they feel.

and by the by I've seen no great improvment in our nation since the seperation of church and state has become such a viable public stance.

That is exactly the problem with America. They are the only ones that count.

1300 scientists are wrong! Right! Typical American response. To admit anything else would mean one has to act and America is too interested in making money and bullying the world into following its ways.

Many more scientists and scholars are convinced that we are causeing world problems with our lifestyle and that the world is in fact approaching a crisis. The problem is America will try to close the barn door after the horses have run off.

Once again without regard for the environment or the ecology America is going to drill for oil in the Arctic and that will have a major effect on the large herds of cariboo.

American governments still seem to believe in "manifest destiny". They haven't grown up yet.

From an American Scholar Matthew Fox. Taken from his web site.

"Our culture is deeply engaged iin sadomasochism-understood here as the haves lording over the have-nots. How so? Let's take contemprary capitalism and the world distribution of wealth and power as an example: In the 1960's, the overall income i the rishest 29 percent of the world's population was thirty times that of the poorest 20 percent. Today, it is 224 times larger! In the 1960's , the richest 20 percent held 70 percent of the world's revenues; In 1999it was 85 percent. Today the income of the richest 225 people in the world is equal to the income of 3 billion ppor people. The income of the three richest people in the world is equal to the collective national incomes of the poorest fourty-nine countries. It would take nor more than 5 percent of the overall annual sales of arms in the world to feed all the starving children, to protect them from dying of preventable diseases, and to make basic education accessible to all."

That is from an American but no doubt all of the industrialized world must assume its share of reponsibility for the situation.

The American Government wonders why it is hated by many including the terrorists. They should read Matthew Fox and change the foreign policy. I believe that America is heading for the same end as the great Roman Empire.

You have conveniently ignored my post showing the hypocrisy of the US govt.

Economists even say that the American public finances are in an awful mess.

Anti-American I am not. But is sure object to blind stupidity on the part of the American Government and the out and out lying that has gone on. And the real shame is the people follow along just like sheep or goats.

I wonder what the American Govt. would do if Canada shut off the oil tap? I can guess. But its OK to subsidize western farmers and prop up a useless lumber industry by stealing money from other countries even though the WTO has said its illegal. Is anything legal as long as the US govt approves it?

America like other countries has its share of very fine people. Those who care and fight for what is right. This is seen in the amount of support that Geordie gets. Close to half the people wish it were otherwise.

America has some great people and some great ideas and inventions. They are leading the world in the exploration of space. There are many top notch scientists in America. It just happens that those scientists who object to the idea of global warming are under the employ of the fossil fuel industry. I'd call that a conflict of interest.

If one doesn't listen when his/her friends tell him/her then it will reach the point when one's enemies will tell him/her: witness 9/11. What is to come next from the terrorists: a nuclear explosion somewhere in the US?

I find it interesting that you link homosexuality and immorality together. Personally I don't agree with the linkage. Such a linkage results from not understanding, for whatever reason, the nature of human sexuality. That is a problem that the fundamentalists and the conservatives have had for years.

The U.S. does have many tremendous qualities but the takeover of our government by modern day robber barons and religious militants will bring what America truly deserves; Consequences. Dramatic changes are needed and this won't happen if we continue to point at the rest of the world when we have problems. To think man has had no impact on the planet is lunacy! I'm not an environmentalist but certainly have enough common sense to see what is happening. FACING the idea that the U.S. is WRONG on ANY count terrifies those cashing in on our ignorance. (And is considered Treason in Bush's America.) When the Consequences of our greed and recklessness hit us in our faces you can bet the "patriots" in the White House, Pentagon and corporate board rooms will be the first to flee. Perhaps forcing them to reside in the foreign slums where most of their goods are manufactured would be justice served.

not sure what that's in reference to.

1300 scientists are wrong! Right! Typical American response. To admit anything else would mean one has to act and America is too interested in making money and bullying the world into following its ways.

1300 scientists is some sort of quorum? it has some ring of a mandate to it? i frankly have no idea how many people in the world go by the title _Scientist_, but i think it would not be unreasonable to guess it numbers into seven figures. let's call it an even million, fair enough? let's say that only one percent are genuine atmospheric scientists, meteorological experts, oceanographers, etc - those whose work would be focuses specifically on issues related to global warming. that brings the total down to 10,000. so, ten percent of one percent of scientists who are experts in the field participated in this study. not exactly overwhelming.

here's a tidbit i just gathered from google:

The study was compiled by 1,360 scientists from 95 nations who pored over 16,000 satellite photos from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and analyzed reams of statistics and scientific journals.

so, this study wasn't really even really a study, it was a review of existing data. do you have any idea how easy it is to parse random, existing data from manifold source points, and come to a predetermined conclusion?

Many more scientists and scholars are convinced that we are causeing world problems with our lifestyle and that the world is in fact approaching a crisis. The problem is America will try to close the barn door after the horses have run off.

and many scientists and scholars recognize that it is US ingenuity that has the greatest hope of finding solutions for worldwide problems. i don't deny that the US consumes a lot of resources. but just looking at what's consumed, and what's produced as a result, is a peculiar form of blindness.

Once again without regard for the environment or the ecology America is going to drill for oil in the Arctic and that will have a major effect on the large herds of cariboo.
some say a major effect. some point out that new drilling techniques already in use elsewhere will keep the 'footprint' exceedingly small, and likely cause little effect.

American governments still seem to believe in "manifest destiny". They haven't grown up yet.
this is the most shrill post i think i've seen from you Ted. not really in character. me, i'm always shrill, so i have an excuse.

It would take nor more than 5 percent of the overall annual sales of arms in the world to feed all the starving children, to protect them from dying of preventable diseases, and to make basic education accessible to all."
therefore, the easy answer, is to take the riches from the rich, by force, and redistribute them to the poor. why didn't i think of that. of course, there is no mention - none, whatsoever - of ANY positive return to society that those faceless "rich people" give. of course, there's no mention of the economic disparities here and elsewhere *before* the 1960's, as if modern history somehow went >poof!

That is from an American but no doubt all of the industrialized world must assume its share of reponsibility for the situation.
kill the rich! kill the rich! kill the rich! woohoo!!!

The American Government wonders why it is hated by many including the terrorists. They should read Matthew Fox and change the foreign policy. I believe that America is heading for the same end as the great Roman Empire.

some in the american government wonder why we are hated by so many around the world. they are typically the freshmen in congress, who apparently have no eye for history going back before say, oh, 1999.

america has been hated around the world damn near perpetually! thankfully, this isn't a popularity contest. thankfully, we do so much good around the world, without expecting photo-op 'pats on the back', that i'm not too bothered by it.

You have conveniently ignored my post showing the hypocrisy of the US govt.
which one? i've responded to a lot of posts in this thread, including a few by you - most notably the one suggesting we're fast becoming fascists.

yawn.

Economists even say that the American public finances are in an awful mess.

how did we get on this?

Anti-American I am not. But is sure object to blind stupidity on the part of the American Government and the out and out lying that has gone on. And the real shame is the people follow along just like sheep or goats.
but you're not anti-american, thank goodness, as you just said so there black and white. speaking of black and white....

No, I'm not anti-American. I'm anti-stupidity.

You make purely speculative comments about scientists. The nature of a study is to review the literature. That is how, in science, final answers are arrived at.

Did you actually read the figures in Matthew Fox's work. The industrialized world, and that includes Canada has a problem and they'd bloody well better soon find a solution. It is not found in the giant very wealthy military industry. I could be wrong but your attitude says to me this unequal distribution of wealth is not my problem: witness 9/11 and whatever else in in store. It becomes everyone's problem, yours included.

In fact your only real response to the disparity is "kill the rich"; a complete absurdity and not an answer to the problem.

You refer to my post of , I believe, 3-17-05. You have not responded to my list of hyporisies etc. Just look for the name Daniel Ellsberg. He brought to light the lies.

I must say, your response is exactly what I expected. That is precisely why America has a problem. They don't want to face the truth because it might affect their rather messed up economy.

And now we see America in another "Viet Nam". This says nothing about the increase in insurgency in Aphghanistan. Bush keeps railing about the evil axis of Syria, Iran, and North Korea. Are they next on his hit list.

Osama Bin Laden, who deserves only to be shot, has said he will bankrupt the US and it does seem to be working.

You didn't like my comment about Canadians shutting off the oil tap and the consequences I see. If we have the oil and the US govt. needs it it will stop at nothing to get it. That is how I see it: I just have to look at Iraq, Aphghanistan, and maybe even Iran. Shrill is it. You make me laugh LOL.

I used shalom to end and your retort was none here. Like I said if your friends won't tell you your enemies will: 9/11.

I think Fox is not far wrong in his list whether you like it or not.

I still wish you peace but hope that you will open your eyes before its too late.

Shalom

Ted :-6I know it's on the wrong thread, but I'll answer anyway. I did not link homosexuality to immorality. The bible did. And since most christian religions call the bible the word of god, well then I guess he did. God addressed it once before, in Soddom and Ghomorrah. And while man has changed through the years, God's expectations have not. Will history repeat itself? Don't know. But it is not my call. I'll leave it up to him. In the meantime, people are going to do what they want. But for every action, there is an equal or greater reaction.

In fact your only real response to the disparity is "kill the rich"; a complete absurdity and not an answer to the problem.and how do you propose 'equalizing' wealth, without redistributing it, and most likely by force? i say, kill the rich. it's the most efficient solution. have governments take their wealth, and give it out to everybody. then everybody can be rich! who needs to work? take the wealth from the rich, give it to the poor. a perfect solution. nay, a final solution.

You refer to my post of , I believe, 3-17-05. You have not responded to my list of hyporisies etc. Just look for the name Daniel Ellsberg. He brought to light the lies.that i reject a lot, doesn't mean that i deny there is any. as well, there's only so much time in the day, and only so much will to respond at times.

I must say, your response is exactly what I expected. That is precisely why America has a problem. They don't want to face the truth because it might affect their rather messed up economy.our economy is fine. how did we get on this digression again? oh, wait, i see, it's because we burn fossil fuels, therefore we're destroying the earth.

i repeat: global warming is a farce. the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is a *good* thing. at the pace the amazon is being destroyed, we need all the CO2 we can get, in order for the remaining trees to release the O2 we need. but never mind human release of CO2. all it takes is a single volcano going up, and more CO2 will be released in a day than in all of human history.

that may be a slight exaggeration. i haven't googled yet. in time.

And now we see America in another "Viet Nam".sorry, i reject that sort of patently ridiculous statement. viet nam. war initially started by the french in french indochina in the late 1950's. US involvement started by kennedy in early 1960's. massive escalations through the sixties by johnson. nixon pulled us out in 1973 as i recall. a war that went on for at minimum thirteen years, and cost more than 50,000 US soldier's lives.

the iraq war. barely two years in. 1,500 US soldiers lives lost so far. real progress taking place in new government. or did you miss their free elections over there, the first ones in more than thirty years. there was this guy, saddam hussein, who took power in iraq by force - and ruled as a dictator for thirty years, were you aware? he cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of his own civilian citizens, and possibly upwards of a million conscripted men in the eight year iran/iraq war. warehouses full of long skeletized corpses are found regularly, estimates of tens of thousands of civilians murdered for speaking out against his oppression. currently, most iraqi citizens are glad we are there, are working towards the same goals we are - of course, you won't hear that if all you listen to are mainstream news. they will only remind us every day of the bad things that happen. it was incredibly galling to them when the elections took place, on time, with massive, uncoerced turnout, people risking their lives to vote, unlike people here who bitch about difficulty parking when they try to vote.

another viet nam? you are delusional, i'm sorry.

This says nothing about the increase in insurgency in Aphghanistan. Bush keeps railing about the evil axis of Syria, Iran, and North Korea. Are they next on his hit list.syria is a center for a great deal of terrorism. north korea is a threat to everyone, with the crazy kim il sung in charge. iran, i'm not sure. it's not good that they are threatening to build nuclear weapons.

khaddafy got smart, and decided to wave a white flag after iraq. syria is starting to get the message, or did you miss lebanon throwing out their military recently, and syria's turning over saddam's (brother in law? don't remember) a major capture.

Osama Bin Laden, who deserves only to be shot, has said he will bankrupt the US and it does seem to be working.this sounds like little more than parti pris. sounds like you'd be glad if he bankrupted us (which he is not).

You didn't like my comment about Canadians shutting off the oil tap and the consequences I see. hmm. i don't recall saying anything about 'not liking it'. why would canada threaten to shut off the oil? what would be gained? is this some sort of tit-for-tat? get back and big bad old US for being.....well, for just being us.

If we have the oil and the US govt. needs it it will stop at nothing to get it. That is how I see it: I just have to look at Iraq, Aphghanistan, and maybe even Iran. Shrill is it. You make me laugh LOL.okay. afghanistan has little oil. it has few natural resources to speak of in fact. but whatever turns you on.

I used shalom to end and your retort was none here. Like I said if your friends won't tell you your enemies will: 9/11.again, if you believe 9/11 had anything to do with anything besides madness, well, there's little to talk about. it sounds as if you're cheering for what happened 9/11 - 'taught them a lesson, ha!'. lovely. (yes, i'm putting words in your mouth and attacking you for them. even i sink to my interlocutor's level at times).

I think Fox is not far wrong in his list whether you like it or not.okay.

I still wish you peace but hope that you will open your eyes before its too late.'the end is near'. film at eleven.

And while man has changed through the years, God's expectations have not. Will history repeat itself? Don't know. But it is not my call. I'll leave it up to him. In the meantime, people are going to do what they want. But for every action, there is an equal or greater reaction.

We have this freedom here in this country. Wait! That was pre-Clinton era slapping you in the slammer with no fair trial. dern.

You can hate your country, just don't express it or you may just get your arse Patriot Acted. Funny. this is what people used to warn me about when they spoke of communism.
show me one US citizen who has been imprisoned for speaking out against this country.

hey, i run FG. i've not gotten a single request from the government to turn over IP addresses of people posting here. i've not gotten a single request from the government, period. in fact, i've been in the ISP business a decade, and except for one instance, with a customer of a downstream ISP, who was trading in child pornography, i've never been contacted by any federal agency. in that one case, the FBI visited, and i shared what info i had on the matter.

how many years will it be before michael moore gets out of leavenworth? oh, wait. he's not in prison. he produced a "documentary" that made more than a hundred million dollars, weaving fact and fiction into an absolute screed against the bush administration. he's about as shrill as you can get - i should take lessons from him, he's so good.

yep, the jackboots are everywhere. i better buy a nightlight.

That is correct. I love my country and it's people, history and land. I hate the government and military. That qualifies me as anti-American. Since the U.S. is all about power I more than qualify as anti-U.S.

That was the original idea but we have been controlled by corporate criminals liars and theives for decades now. Voters choose either a Republican corporate criminal for Prez or a Democratic corporate criminal. Our choices end there. 1% of our population rules our futures. This is something I believe the people will put an end to through revolution. We did it before, in 1776. It's time to do it again before they kill more of us in their greed inspired wars and economic banditry.

War is good and creates needed change in some instances. WW2 was necessary to stop the Holocaust. It's bad evil governments like ours starting wars to get a few people rich that makes it bad. Unless we are invaded we should only use our troops to guard our borders. There are about 1600 dead Americans that I say were murdered by Bush. I think Bush should pay for that crime.

We'll leave Sonoma County alone.

fyi, bullet just earned himself a ban from FG. i'm not going to repost what he wrote. FG is a PG-13 forum, and the terms he used to refer to homosexuals were far more than R, so to speak.

Davey, Davey we finally agree on something. I personally hate. forgive me, both politcial parties. your right on track there, at least in my humble opinion.

Don't agree with your conclusion. There will be no revolution. The Dems and Reps. are smart enough to know that fat people don't revolt..

They will keep the majority of Americans in a position where they can see daylight but never quite reach it. And with fat enough bellies to not risk what little they have.
