Gibson's brutal epic
Mel Gibson's mythic Mayan adventure lets rip with a blast of nightmare horror in a pagan stomach-churner........if anyone goes to see this, i'd like to hear their opinion. i don't like movie theaters, so i'll wait for the DVD.

Not one I think I would be interested in. But Rick wants to see it. We usually wait for the DVD or pay per view also.

I really want to see it, but I heard it is very graphic and violent. I will wait until someone tells me if this is true or not-I cannot watch those kind of movies. But I do want to hear the Mayan being spoken.
apocalypto
I'm kind of dismayed that Mel Gibson continues his march towards increased bloody/dripping/gaping violence in each of his movies. I don't really understand it because I think it takes *away from the story.

It looks interesting, but I'll wait for the DVD. I'd rather spend my time at the movies watching a comedy.

They did a show on 20/20 about this movie, with Mel. The language is amazing and it looks very graphic. At the same time very historical somewhat. Shoot in Mexico in the ruins. The Myas were all about human/ animal sacrafice so yes it is visually graphic. The cast is all unknowns all Myas from Guatemala where there is a Myan community of sorts trying to practice their beliefs.

I agree to a point. Violence like "Friday the 13th, part 826" is tiring and unimaginative. Violence like in, say, "Braveheart" or "The Passion of the Christ" is not gratuitous, and in fact is based on reality.
I'm going watch, but only after it's out on DVD. My money is too precious to dump 20 or 30 bucks on an afternoon at the movies.

I'd like to see this, too, having been to Guatemala & seen the end of the civilization. It's really fun to see living people there with faces just like the ones on the temples!

Tombstone, the Maya were originally thought to have been peaceful, scientific, gentle souls who were simple farmers. The truth is MUCH closer to the images in this film....they fought constant wars, took terrible tolls on their neighbors, devastaged their own resources and eventually made their own territories uninhabitable.

Perhaps for him that is the story. In the last decade or so his films have revolved around the struggles of humanity, even earlier really. His Mad Max movies were about man vs evil.

We are going to see it. I look forward to it. His Passion of the Christ as pretty good though I didn't care for the bloody scenes in that one either. But I'm too curious about this movie to pass it up.

Not interested. WAY too much violence. And ITA with Tombstones take. I think Gibson is going down a very dark road in his life and wants to take the rest of us with him. I think the darkness will eventually eat him up.

The movie is actually pretty good. I saw it this Saturday. It is graphic, but if youve seen movies like SAW 1, 2, or 3, it wont bother you.

It doesn't work for me, I still cannot watch scenes like that. I will have nightmares forever.
I forgot what movie my 2 kids snookered me into seeing a few years ago, but I got up in the middle and left, and told them to find me in the mall afterwards.

Sissy! No, seriously, I understand. "Saw" has been on cable here and I watched for only a few minutes.
