Nice story I received in an email: :-6

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our dog, Abbey, died Aug. 23, and the day after Abbey died, my 4 year old, Meredith, was SO upset. She wanted to write a letter to God so that God would recognize Abbey in heaven. She told me what to write, and I did. Then she put 2 pictures of Abbey in the envelope. We addressed it to God in Heaven, put two stamps on it (because, as she said, it could be a long way to heaven). We put our return address on it, and I let her put it in the drop box at the post office that afternoon. She was absolutely sure that letter would get to heaven, and I wasn't about to disillusion her.
So today is Labor Day. We took the kids to the museum in Austin, and when we came home, there was a package wrapped in gold on our front porch. It was addressed to Mer. So, she took it inside and opened it.
Inside was a book, When Your Pet Dies, by Mr. Rogers (Fred Rogers). On the front cover was the letter we had written to God, in its envelope (opened). On the opposite page was one of the pictures of Abbey taped on the page. On the back page was the other picture of Abbey, and this handwritten note on pink paper:
"Dear Mer,
I know that you will be happy to find out that Abbey arrived safely and soundly in heaven. Having the pictures you sent to me was a big help! I recognized Abbey right away!
You know, Mer, she isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me (-just like it stays in your heart-) young and running and playing. Abbey loved being your dog, you know. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep things in-- so I am sending you your beautiful letter back with the pictures--so that you will have this little memory book to keep.
One of my angels is taking care of this for me. I hope this little book will help.
Thank you for your beautiful letter. Thank your mother for sending it. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.
God blesses you every day and remember, I love you very much. By the way, I am in heaven and everywhere there is love.
Signed,
God, and one of his special angels (who wrote this letter after God told HER the words)."
How wonderful is that! I never knew there were angels working the post office!
Accountable, that is one of the nicest and coolest animal stories I have ever read. I'm going to pass it on to some animal friends. :)
Accountable, that really is the very best story I have ever read, and what a wonsderful memory you created for your daughter. Every child should be so lucky.
Nice letter Good Morning,
What I got out of it was the statement - "What a nice mother God picked her out especially for you" - God, Why did I end up with the one I had?
I often think the same thing Patsy. But then, because of her I make sure I DON'T do the things she did and I know that makes me a more thoughtful and caring person than her, it also makes me a MUCH better mother than she ever was.
So many people have bad upbringing's but then fall into the cycle of treating their kids in the same way, even doing the things they hated their parents doing to them. Look at it in a positive light - you KNOW what you hated about her so you KNOW what you don't like. Enjoy NOT doing those things! :wah:
Acc, that was a truly beautiful and heart-wrenching story. Thankyou for sharing it. :)
There was a film on the True Movie channel months ago about a little girl who believed in Mermaids and whose father died. She sent a letter to God tied to a balloon (with a mermaid picture on it.) The balloon ended up, tangled to a tree a long way away, in a place called Mermaid Lake! The family who found the balloon sent the girl a present and a letter saying the girl's daddy had picked them to send her the gift because he couldn't send a gift from heaven. The two families ended up meeting each other and becoming the best of friends.
Patsy, the other thing I meant to say to you was that perhaps we're not meant to be LIKE the child in this story, perhaps we're meant to be LIKE the mother! And so we become wonderful mothers to OUR children. Probably the mother in the story had a crap mother herself, and that's why she BECAME such a wonderful mother! Hugs to you Patticake :yh_hugs :yh_hugs
Rapunzel
Your so right - I've worked hard all my life to form a greater being - a greater bond with family - I do hate passing a mirror - Oh, no - I look like her - why me?
I never received a letter from heaven - I'm nothing like my mother, thank God, my prayers have been answered.
Not my daughter, dear. My daughter has 4 legs and sits on my shoulder. :)
This was an email that was forwarded to me. It was just too cool to delete.
Nomie your signature made me laugh till I cried..:wah: :wah: Just got home from the Mall yikes it is crazy out there and saw your signature..:D
ACC what a beautiful story. I actually remember there being a movie about some postal worked assigned to the answering letters for God and Santa Department. It had Greg Kinnear, George Burnes in it. I remember how serious they took their jobs and got so involved in the kids they went all out sending things and paying for it with their own money. Cute movie.. ;)
