The helpless biker needs assistance....again....

Post by BabyRider »

The week of Christmas I am having a gathering for Bullet's buddies. It will be cool that he can call home all day and talk to all of them. It's going to be a crappy enough Christmas where he's at, so this may help him a bit. Here's my dillema:

People will be coming in and out all day and evening, so I need to find food to make for a houseful of bikers that will last all day. Who's got an idea for me? Any suggestions? I'm not a "Martha Stewart" or even close, so please try to keep it simple for me. Thanks Gang!!

(Wow but I'm yakky today, ain't I????) SHUT UP CRISS!!!!!! :wah:

How about suggesting that everyone who comes bring a bowlful they've prepared? That would provide plenty of food with a lot of variation, and spread the effort widely enough for it not to be a headache to anyone.

Good idea to get started, but I know these guys. 90% of them will be stag and leaving the food supply to them would be a DRASTIC mistake. I'd still need a couple things to make for the first bunch that gets there, otherwise, they will STARVE. I will go suggest this right now in the BA forum. Good idea, Spot.

do you have the facilities to set up a grill and assign people to tend it, perhaps in shifts?

Have different kinds of salads.

A pasta salad, tabouli salad, three bean salad, (argh) potato salad...

That can fill a plate aside from whatever else you have.

Lasagna is often a good hot option. But you need an industrial sized one.

That would be great, and I will see if anyone wants to, but my upper flat is kind of a pain to be running up and down the stairs to keep an eye on the grill. I have faith in the gang here....something will come up.

We entertain all the time. When an unexpected party or geyt together breaks out at my house we. Stick a couple of cookie sheets full of frozen chicken wings ( you can buy them at Sams and they are not expensive) We usually do a pan of crunchy wings and a pan of buffalo wings. Also a crock pot of cheese dip with chips keeps alot of people satisfied for a long time. The wings only take 12-15 minutes to prepare so depending on how many show up you can always throw some more in and have food in no time. And of course you always have the ole sandwich in a can ( beer ).

Do you have some crock pots? You could make up some stew, or soup, or better yet, gumbo and keep it warm that way? That's what we do here anyway, in addition to finger foods like chips and dip, veggie plates, etc.

If you have a Sams, CostCo or BJs there...go on Sunday and get a few of thier rotissere chickens. They are not too expensive, already cooked...and the cool thing is they can be served reheated or cold.

As expected, more great ideas, you guys!! Thanks, and I will be putting several of these ideas to use. On a cold day like this, some of the guys will ride anyway, so chilli and soup will be very welcome. Y'all are awesome!!! :yh_worshp

And LC, having someone man the grill is also sounding like a better idea. There will be a few guys here all day and evening, so I'm going to put 'em to work. I might even make them do dishes! >

You could also make, or have made, a few meat and cheese trays. As one empties, take another one out of the fridge. Sloppy joes in a slow cooker works too.

I'm thinking something along the lines of those "Lil Smokies" tiny sausages or some regular weiners cut up into cocktail size and put in the slow cooker with either sauce or some baked beans. :)

I'll go see if I can find the recipe!

We've had friends over and just served a platter of deli meat, cheese, toppings, etc. and all kinds of different bread/buns. Build your own sandwich, it worked great!

One quickie meal my hubby and kids love is I take frozen meatballs and dump a jar of marinara sauce on 'em and throw them in the oven and we have meatball subs. yummy!

We always have a bag of chicken wings available - we have people stopping in alot.

Chicken wings - Pizza - French bread - and French bread Pizzas - as the Pizza only take 20 - so if this is more like a open house - people coming @ different times. I always have different dips, brought in & covered, easy to set on a bowl of ice.

Have you ever had Salmon Dip ?? Delic. I always have to make it..

1- can of Salmon

3 - hard boiled eggs

chop celery, onions, salt, pepper - mix with mayo to desired thickness - refrig.

this makes a large amount - Everyone loves it - crackers - breads Try it.

Fill them up with easy starches.

You can make a large brisket in the oven over night, and a pot of beans. But I also like the chili idea.

Chili is another good crock - theres several easy crock possibilities.

There's always the ubiquitous artichoke heart dip, do you know that one?

Super easy, serve warm on chunks of french bread.

Or something that's pretty filling that will last all day, ham roll-ups.

Might be a BIT too frou-frou for biker dudes but ya never know.

Ha Ha:wah: . Yeah BR you should just buy a whole pig. Build a big fire. Throw the pig into the fire. Let the biker dudes get their meal at their own peril. Toughest biker dudes get to eat the most.:wah: Or just throw out raw meat. If they want it cooked they can warm it up on the bike mufflers.:wah:

PEOPLE! Does BR REALLY want to be serving beans to a bunch of BIKERS? :wah:

Ok, seriously, chili or spaghetti sauce over rice/noodles/pasta are great choices, because you can freeze any leftovers and you can make both well ahead of time. I'm sorry I can't be there to help, Criss! My advice is to call on all your friends to pitch in & help...you KNOW they'll be glad to do it & it'll be fun!

C'mon guys these are big ol Bikers, they need real fill your gut food! So BR, how's about you cook up 5 or 6 lbs of Baked Ziti, (using your favoriate jar sauce. (Ragu is the jar choice for me) And get a few aluminum serving pans. Set up a couple of sterno cans flames underneith each pan. Most every "all guy" event I ever went to had these things, & "the ziti" was the food most of us always ate! :D  ;)

Looks like it's all been covered. My little suggestion was cheap and easy. A relish dish of raw veggies (broccoli, califlower, celery, olives, and a couple cheese balls)

I LOVE the idea of the crock pots filled with chili, soup, stew. Excellent for a cold winter day.

Don't forget the plastic utensils, napkins, paper plates/bowls and hefty bags in the corners of the room for the trash.

Sounds like a blast. Can I come? :)
