Titanic Sequel?

Post by suncrafter »

Titanic Sequel Idea:

It might be cool if they did a Titanic sequel that tells the story of Rose's life AFTER the first movie...

Think of all the stuff Rose witnessed and did in those 90 years... The stock market crash, both world wars, giving birth, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, falling in love again after Jack, did she ever see Molly Brown or her mother again? Man's landing on the moon, woman's suffrage movement, civil rights movement. How did she became a pilot? Did she ever get back on a ship? How did she meet her future husband, how did HE die?

Titanic Sequel?

I don't know who these Rose or Jack people are, but I do know that a sequel without a boat would be a naff prospect. OK, off the top of my head, here's how to pitch it. I'm just winging here, stay with me, these brainstorming sessions can either work or not depending on the interjections and the silences.

There's another big ship around that nobody knows is on the scene at all in the first film, and everyone assumes that what they see sink is the Titanic but it ain't, it's this other boat which got caught by the iceberg at the same time. The Titanic herself isn't mortally crippled but its engines are out of commission and it drifts north without power. Captain Lord and the ship's designer, Andrews, realize by dawn that they're out of sight of any rescue ships and that nobody's going to come looking for them (they saw the other boat go down and the lights of the Carpathia disappearing over the horizon). They still have five hundred souls aboard and the film records their struggle balancing the inboard water and pumping it sufficiently to reach Greenland and beach before the next storm hits them.

A romantic attachment forms between these two lead characters, forged in the heat of their desperate resolve to keep the slowly freezing passengers from dying of cold.

Provisional title: "Titanic II: Brokeback Sailing".
